Test Only Cycle: looking for strength gains

Background Info:

Age: 32
Height: 5’10
Weight: 160lbs (3.5 weeks ago), now 168lbs (after 20+ days on Test E&C)
Body Fat: 14%
Training: Past 6 years consistently. Lost fat over the years, gained very little muscle. I had a trainer for the past 1.5 years, who concludes I’m strong for my size & a hard gainer. Though I do gain fat pretty easily.
Goal: Gain & retain muscle along with strength gains, reduce body fat

This is my first cycle, I’m on Week 4, I take 500mg E3D, Test E stacked with C (I now realize they’re practically the same, so whats the point???). My friend has done 1 cycle before & got me started on this, along with his 2nd cycle. I have been researching for the past 3 weeks). He is also taking Deca, but Im going with just Test E & C for my first cycle to see how I react with the foundation stuff. I have Nolva at hand for when needed. I plan to stop at 10 weeks (after reading these forums, seems more appropriate than stopping at 8 weeks which is my friend’s plan).

I train 6 days / week, about 15+ sets per workout & usually isolate body parts. I go for 8 to 15 reps (15+ reps being warmup). Lots of compound exercises.

Question 1:
I am on week 4 now & see little increase in strength, though I have great endurance / recovery now. Is this expected if I’m on a Test only cycle? For ex: I never benched more than 185 (6 or 7 reps). Now I can do 7 or 8 at most. But I do see some size gains (started at 160 and now at 168lbs).

Question 2:
What can I do to retain as much as possible after the cycle? (I realize this must have been asked before, so I’ll try and read up more).

Question 3:
Can I concurrently work on reducing body fat along with seeking size gains?

Any feedback or recommendations from experienced folks? I appreciate it.

I’ll continue to read up more, but thought it might make sense at this point to seek some feed back from experienced folks on here.

Strong for your size? Hardly. You’re not doing bad, so don’t take this the wrong way, but you still have far to go. Just to provide an example for comparison: a good friend of mine is “strong for his size”. He can bench 275 and DL 500 at 155lbs BW (he’s really young too).

The hardgainer stuff is probably BS. Especially if you can gain fat. If you can gain fat, it means you’re not optimizing your training/diet (probably diet) enough to build muscle.

If that’s the best results the trainer got you after a year and a half, I wouldn’t take anything he/she told you too seriously. Most PTs don’t know shit about getting stronger/building large amounts of muscle anyway.

For the past 4 weeks, I eat roughly 2500 - 3000 calories a day. Lots of Chicken breasts, egg whites, veggies like chick peas / squash, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, nuts. For supplements, I get two scoops of mass gainer after training with Whey protein, and I get one or two protein shakes a day.

I only have Nolva for PCT for now. Any other recommendations?

personally I would get a baseline set for macros, with the above food listed it looks like you are hardly eating any carbs? Do you put on fat easily from carbs? Increase your food intake.

nolva should be fine for pct as long as you have enough…

Op I’d also question your training. Instead of doing 8-15 reps, I believe you should consider trying some heavy lifting in the 3-5 rep range. This might help stimulate muscle growth. I’m a firm believer that dumbbell’s and barbells help build strength. Minimize the use of machines and cables.
