TBT, Sorta -- Questions

Waterbury set out some easy guidelines in his latest article (4 Guaranteed Tips). I’ve been doing EDT for two months and I was looking for a change of pace, something that was more focused on a whole body routine.

I’ve only been working out since the beginning of this past summer, but over the summer I was doing a whole body routine (linear periodization: it was before I found this site) that got my heartrate up, which I liked because one of my primary goals right now is fat loss.

Enter CW’s article: it sounded exactly like what I wanted. Simple, effective, and fun. I’m relatively new to lifting, so I have a quick question: does a bent-over row count as a pull? He suggests beginning by doing four exercises every workout: a squat, a deadlift, a press, and a pull.

So far this week, I’ve done wide-grip pulldowns and supinated pulldowns (my fat ass can’t do real pullups yet). If the bent-over row isn’t consider a pull, any suggestions?

What suggestions do you guys have for the deadlift? Last workout I did high pulls in lieu of any deadlifts because I don’t really know the differences between the different variations. How is a Romanian deadlift different from a “normal” deadlift?

When I say “normal”, I’m referring to the deadlift I’ve been doing, in which I’ve been lowering the weight pretty much down to my ankles every rep.

Also, why the hell are hack squats so much harder than normal squats? I can do 8 sets of 3 squats at 185, but couldn’t do more than 2 reps at 135 in the hack squats (I had to drop to 95 before I could knock out a set of 12).

As an aside: I am proof–along with many others, I’m sure–that EDT works. At the end of the summer, before I took my two weeks of active rest and then began EDT, the most I could do on high pulls was 3x3x100. Yesterday I did 3x12x105–easily.

you suck at them they are a weakness I can hack squat more than squat last I checked been a while. My quads were stornger at the time and I use a wide stance on squats. more glute and hip.
