Tattoos and Training

Not sure which forum is the best for this, but most of the tat threads I searched are here, so…

I’m getting a new tattoo on Monday, about five inches wide, between my shoulder blades. Anyone have some thoughts on training while it heals? I figure that heavy pressing and rowing are off my list for bit, but I’ve had a few people tell me to avoid any sort of strenuous exercise at all. I don’t want to take a couple weeks off, but I also don’t want to fuck up my ink. I had work done on my shoulders a few years ago, no problems with that, but it was pretty small and I just took a couple days off. This is a good bit bigger, and in a harder spot to keep an eye on (literally :p) so any advice would be appreciated.

You are just more susceptable to getting sick, infection and things. It is a sore, it is healing. Wait maybe 3 days to train and don’t lay on it until the scabs heal. That is all I’d say. Do your scabs take two weeks to heal?

Just put plenty of neosporin on it and give yourself just a couple of days until the ink stops bleedin(if that makes sense to you) I’ve trained ussually a couple of days after i get a new one , no big deal. Just make sure you use plenty of neo.

Dude, take a week off from training. One week off isn’t gonna kill you, and even the hugest back piece on the planet won’t take more then one week to heal.

And just for the record, A & D Ointment for the first three to four days is the best after care advice you will recieve. Do NOT use Neosporin. Some people have used it and haven’t had any problems, others have. Neosporin is great for cuts, but a tattoo isn’t a cut. The best thing you can do is keep your tattoo clean, apply A $ D Ointment three to four times a day for the first 3 to four days, and follow that up with one to two weeks of UNSCENTED lotion. Curel makes a good one.

Good luck man…

Here’s a third on this. Had my entire back done last year and the ointment then unscented lotion was BY FAR the best treatment I ever used.

Also, I took a week off of heavy pressing w my back on a bench and just hammered away on dips and push-up variations…it was a nice little change. No problems w rowing.

Cheers,
