Cops do not make people safer.
You’re right…people that respect humanity and the laws of the land make people safer…which means we are left with what we have now…crime.
But don’t you think that he has a genuine beef in claiming that a large portion of the “crime” that cops deal with are nothing more than mala prohibitum crime? When you see more people arrested for that (and often good citizens get caught up in that) then you can hold a dim view of the police.
Like I said before…those that basically support an anarchy state are more dangerous than tasers, batons,or bad cops will ever be.
Agreed. Anarchy works…for about a day. Anarchy gives us freedom for a short while, then it gives us Caesar. In anarchy the guy with the most guns steps up and fills the power vacuum. Then you have a tyrant.

If that was truly his only beef with the law, then yeah…I agree, but he has gone beyond that. There lies the idea that preventing and prosecuting lesser crime will help to prevent or deter greater crimes…but thats in idea. Anyways,he’s lost his mind thinking that all cops should be unarmed.

Stronger citizen review of police action is the solution.
That and make sure no one commits a crime and becomes unruly. Heaven forbid that police would have to use force to subdue someone. Maybe they just aren’t asking nice enough, yeah, that should fix it!

There is no such thing as a deterrent to anyone who is motivated enough to commit a crime. Deterrents only work to stifle the actions of normally law abiding citizens who do not wish to make an effort in the first place.
What motivates crime? How do police deter that motivation? You’ll notice we have a prison system with 2,000,000 data points (1.5% of the entire US population) that refute the idea of law enforcement as a deterrent.
Junkies need to get high. Poor people need to eat. Angry people commit acts of violence. Name one deterrent that will convince a junkie not to get high or a poor person not to risk his life stealing from an angry Texan. People assess risk and make decisions based on the best or worse possible outcome; they are guided by morality but driven by more sever circumstances. No cop will ever beat that system.
I refute the idea that cops needs to be armed to arrest a junkie who is only trying to find some peace. What makes a junkie dangerous is the cop who approaches him to take him to jail for getting high. Most encounters that a cop has are malum prohibitum crimes and until they stop policing these they will continue to be seen as brutes in the eyes of the peaceful.

An easy example is the FBI’s effective tactics against kidnapping for ransom have greatly reduced this crime in the US.
If we didn’t have so many deterrents to crime many normally law abiding citizens would not be law abiding.
That guy was an idiot. Why did he get out of the car? Why did he have his hand by his pocket like that? It looked like he was going to pull a gun on the cop.
I have seen enough videos where some guy pulls a gun in the same situation that I understand his actions.
Messing with cops and not following their simple instructions is like playing with fire.

How do you know?
How do you know differently? You made the original claim that deterrence does not deter.
And I know I would have done far more illegal things in my life if I did not rear the consequences.

He was told to get out of the car. He turned his back and started walking. He was told to stop…which he did. He started backing away from the crazy fucking pig because he was scared of being tasered. He got tasered anyway – FOR FUCKING SPEEDING. This guy presented no threat to the cop. This is exactly why I want to disarm cops.

You watched too much COPS of Fox growing up.
No, he got tasered for not following directions and acting in a suspicious hostile manner. His body language made me believe he was a threat. If I can see it over the internet you can be damned sure the cop was getting the same vibe but much stronger.
You might as well say he got tasered for getting out of bed in the morning. It is just as meaningless a statement.

He got tasered because the pig doesn’t know how to control someone. The cop took the easy road. The guy clearly wasn’t a threat. This pig should lose his job.

You’re a smart guy lifty. Why do you let yourself get blinded so easily? What makes a junkie dangerous is the fact that he will break into my home while my family is still there because he’s desperate to get money to feed him habit.
There are plenty of reasons to dislike cops. The fact that they are primarily out there to enforce mala prohibitum laws is the best one. I too agree that cops do more harm than good. But to claim that they do zero good is crazy.
What some of these clowns who attack police for using tasers don’t understand is at 3:00 am you have no idea who you are stopping. And when they start acting suspicious what is the cop supposed to do?
It’s a hard job, no doubt. I remember doing a convoy in the PI. I’m in the command vehicle. All these civilian cars are stopped around us on this narrow road. Jungle is all around us. The sun is starting to set and I’m scanning the area when BAM, a dude with a molotov raises it to chuck it at me.
I grab my 9mm out of the cup holder (we had these nifty pickups for the command vehicle) and got ready to shoot the guy, but I gave him a split second just to be sure…the guy drops it and runs into the jungle. His buddy shows up and and yells, “NO! He was looking for lizards.” The major looks at me and says, “You should have killed that fucker.” I still think he was going to chuck it at us, but I wasn’t sure enough. I’m just asking for some discretion from these cops.
My point is that this guy never drew a weapon, nor attempted to put hands on this cop. Maybe, just maybe, if this cop was so scared, then he should have DRAWN his taser, but its use was entirely unacceptable.
