Thanks guys. That’s exactly what I ended up doing. They’re still major tripping hazards!
Monday I attempted an upper body day.
Warm up
Ankle Stuff
YTLW
Kettlebell Swings 30x20x5
They actually have kettle bells at the gym which is nice, I had to do so snooping to find them so who knows what else they could have?
A1) DB BP 25x5x50
A2) Row 40x5x5
Then I steam roomed. Heavenly. I need to keep in mind it closes 30 min before the gym.
I did some reconnaissance and checked out a Judo place on Thursday. It was a last minute scouting mission so I didn’t participate, but it looks like a viable option. The instructor seemed like someone who know’s what he’s doing, but maybe not the best way to teach it. I’ll check out other schools next week, but this one is only $35 a mo for unlimited classes, and it’s close to campus.
I’m not really sure how to evaluate a Judo Academy? Here’s the link http://www.southsidedojo.com/ any opinions?

Dang that’s cheap. I’d say, unless they ask for a year contract, what have you got to lose trying it out?
hope everything works out for ya.
funny, my ipod is my best friend…kids are at each others throats and I just smile and dance away, haha.

My thoughts exactly. I can try a free class, so I’m going to check out this thursday. If it’s even remotely informative, I’ll pay for the month.
yay kettlebells. i go into sports shops sometimes and try them out. do get some funny looks doing that, though, heh. hope the Judo works out.

Kettlebells get funny looks in the gym I can’t imagine in the store.
Stuffs, I’ve been doing them.
I was in Indiana last friday for the day, so I went to an open mat. It’s been forever since I’ve been on the mat, so it was a little odd at first. I ended up rolling with a fearless teenager for about 45 min. It was a great roll, but kinda frustrating. I’m going to have to make an effort to roll more to keep myself from losing what I have. I kept forgetting basics. The kid was going for arm bars and while I could defend the submission, I couldn’t remember to how to get out of it.
As a result I have a huge bruise on my arm, but I called my coach and he talked me through it. I need to remember to pin his hips and turn my shoulders to a more aggressive angle. Whenever I’m down there I’ll make the effort to hit that gym, fearless teenagers are great fo rkeeping skills sharp.
Its great that you are settled in your new place and have figured out your training. You sound upbeat and ready for this new life of yours. YAY!
I did a bit of lifting as well.
Sunday was a squat focus day. I really like SLDLs and split squats, but balancing was a huge challenge. The ankle still isn’t 100% and baby world is hugely distracting. I think my biggest challenge for a while is going to be getting into the correct head space. I sucked it up though and finished.
The fun thing about new gym is new random classes to try! So I tried Hula Hooping! Awesomely fun, and way harder then it was in the 4th grade. Super fun though and a great general mobility workout.
I threw a DL focus day in there too. Getting into the right head space was a little easier. It’s just super odd to have the weight area in the middle of everything when I’m used to neglected basement rooms.
Yesterday was my first day of Judo! It went awesome, there’s going to be a lot to learn, but that’s exactly the point. Not even the warm ups were the same. We did Seoi nagis
A hula hooping class sounds very fun. I went to a dance club not long ago where these two women were dancing with hula hoops. They had some impressive skills.
Glad to hear that the judo went well!
‘And there goes my back’ I thought when I watched the Judo vid. Wow. Glad it went well for you ![]()
Sounds like you’re having fun with the judo. I have too many dodgy joints to do anything like that - I remember trying a kung fu class quite a few years ago and the break falls aggravated my (already angry) rotator cuff so I decided it wasn’t for me. Still, it’s nice to do something fitness-based that is also a skill.

It’s probably a great way to establish a personal space bubble. I kept hitting the woman next to me with my hoop. Thank god it’s just flimsy plastic, I can’t even imagine if it was oly lifting. Bobbi chipped a tooth, I would give someone a concussion.

The first text I sent off after class said ‘thank god I know how to break fall!’
