A nice table spoon of organic peanut butter and a swash of milk or a glass of PP won’t hinder you. I used to wake up at 3am starving…

MinM its from american phsyco and rules of engagement.

Nice work in the gym, where are the jumps??
otherwise the layout looks pretty good, and not to different from what I do.
hmmmm

I am a big big fan of all lower body training to include the following

OH squat
something heavy ( squat or deadlift)
some jumps ( usually standing broad jumps)
unilateral work

Yup, it’s from American Psycho. Great movie, watch it if you haven’t seen it.

Jumping you say? Why? For the cardio?

I usually have some sort of jumping thing in my warm up insert thing. I’ve been doing box jumps, but this time went with the mtn climbers. They feel petty jump like and I’ve been going to the outside of the hands for the hip mobility.

Though I have been having a lot of trouble hopping to standing when I’m in someone’s closed guard. I’ve also been having trouble pinning the shoulders, I should ask about that in class tonite. The jumping with a person around your waist and your hands on the ground; what’d you suppose I can do to get better at that?

I never said I was an expert
Why not eat a light dinner before BJJ and then a snack before bed? All you can really do is to monitor it and make sure it’s not hindering your goals…cottage cheese at night is known to be helpful…

I know, but you’re getting close and have a wealth of info.

Cottage cheese fits into the dairy category :frowning: I think I have to start taking a shake to class and drinking it on the ride home. Throwing in some flax usually keeps me full, it’s not a bad prebed combo is it?

Nah, it’s more of a realist streak.

doh!, forgot about the dairy…are you cutting it out completely now? I thought your 30 days was up!

what is your shake? non-dairy? protein+ flax= P+F…acceptable!!

I tried some pea protein stuff before…blech!

The 30 days is up, and I actually had dairy on my birthday, but I think I’ll save it for cheat meals. No dairy really helped with keeping calories in check. The part of me that has food issues can easily deal with complete elimination but not moderation. I didn’t really notice any other benefit to no dairy, and having it on Saturday after not for two months wasn’t an issue either.

Shake is MD + Flax + water. I’m really Biotest branded, MD is the only protein I like and since I don’t spend the money on meat I feel fine spending it on quality protein powder.

you don’t consider the protein powder ‘dairy,’ then? It is pretty much milk based…

it does taste pretty awesome though!

Nope, I’m not vegan, I just say the words - staying away from dairy. So if you look at it and it’s milk or cheese like, I’m not eating it. It’s just easier this way. Since it’s not for ethical or actual health reasons, I’m not going to be super anal about it.

Looks like you’re on the right track with great training advice, and listening to your body, too. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re seeing some good results already!

Tire flips are awesome - my gym got rid of the monster tire after about 5 mins (owner’s daughter didn’t like it, or something lame like that), so I have to live vicariously through you now.

Oh, hawt legz.

that’s fucking lame of them Blue, I bet ya she couldn’t flip it so princess decided to deprive the others…merde.

hey… I said jumping cause I think they really help build power.

both cressey and defranco both had them programed in on lower body training days, dan john too with his students

Back in time when I trained at the OTC in colorado, we did lots of sprints coupled with broad jumps
and some box jumps

I like do do broad jumps with squats, and DB jumps with deadlifts
and split jumps with pulls, snatches or cleans

and I like jump squats too

really the standing broadjump is like the triple jump- just keep jumping

great for power development

my 2c.

im not a big meat eater- when I do Its mostly fish. good fish.

5/26

Session 2
BJJ
Self defense- bear hug, front kick
Rolled for about 15 min. I run away a little too much, and sit back when I should keep pressing forward.

5/27
Session 3
Steady state cardio
45 min eliptical

Session 4
BJJ
De la Riva Gaurd and sweeps from it
It feels advanced and I don’t.
Rolled a bit, I need to be better at defending the hand in the collar.

5/28
Session 5 and Session 6
BJJ with rolling hard

Friday went oddly, I actually ended up driving to Ann Arbor and going to BJJ there. So it wasn’t my school and not rolling wasn’t an option. It was a bruiser school, so it was hard rolling. I’ve got a bone bruise on my clavical, and a fat lip now :frowning:

It was hard to get into the must go hard mental space, esp since I hadn’t planned on going to class. I need to figure out a way to turn it on with out having to be hurt first.

A lot of people I know use music to help find that head space. Get better soon!

Ooh, bone bruises are nasty.

Oh, thanks, I was mostly just complaining, bumps and bruises come with the territory. The worst part was actually the temperature, the gym was in the attic of a warehouse. So we were in a oven with Gi’s on!

There’s no real opportunity to play your own music before rolling. Though it’s a great tip for lifting. I’ve always liked to have a practice go before the real one for anything, I can’t always have that though, and guess I need to be more aware of how I feel when it does just happen so I can recreate it.

Yeah, so it’s been a week of me doing almost nothing. My best friend flew in from CA and we just played for a while. I took her to BJJ with me, but no gym time. I think I got in an hour of cardio one day, but that’s pretty much it. I’m at my parents until Monday, and getting away from my mom is great motivation for working out tomorrow!

You need weeks like that every now and then, to recharge your battery.

Hope your workout tomorrow is a good one!
