Like all gyms… my gym has a Tanita in the back room. I have heard different opinions on this thing. My question about it is: Even if the reading it gives me is not exactly accurate, is it a good way to track your progress while bulking?

No. Do a search. The only one that I have found to even give a consistant reading regardless of how off the actual number is would be the handheld electric Omron tester. The ones you stand on are useless.
if you use it under the same circumstances (ie before breakfast, after breakfast, etc) every time you get on it. also being that its at the gym you never know when someone will mess with the settings.
I have one at home and caliberated it to match my underwater test years back. I feel mine is fairly accurate as long as I test under the same circumstances mentioned above.

thanks dudes.
I’d have to agree I think they suck. I have one now and it gives me readings all over the place. One moment I have 28% fat and another I have 22%. There is supposed to be another mid-ranged price one that has an athletic body mode. But I Dont know how good it is considering I dont have that one. Who knows if thats any better either. It does make me feel good that every reading I get tells me that I’m extremely obesse. I’m not living up to that 170 lb expectation!
I’d say take the Profs advice. I cant say I’ve heard anything bad from him (except opinions!) so I would bet this is dead on.
This type of scale is only good for showing trends if you use it at the same time of day and you are hydrated the same each day. But you can see how fat (or not fat) you are in the mirror. So who cares if you know your BF% to the nearest tenth?
What about Accufitness fat track pro digital tracking bf callipers for measuring BF%? I know they will not give absolute bf numbers, but they might be more precise than tanita scales though.
Any thoughts on this?

I have one of the models with the athletic mode. All it seems to do is knock 10% off of the bodyfat levels. I don’t believe they are very accurate.
