Taking my time and losing my mind...

Pete,

I registered for a competition in 2 ply so I am really just trying to learn how to do this w/out dying in front of a small audience of strangers.

Joe,

Thanks for the encouragement I have a feeling I will need all the positivitynessism I can find in the next 2 weeks.

Can you switch what category you registered for if you aren’t ready for 2 ply?

About mixing raw and gear in a meet. That can be tough if it’s a small flight, which you may not know until the day of. Putting in a raw lift and then getting your gear on, seated right, and a few reps before hitting the platform may require more time than you have. I know people do it, but if this is your first full meet, no way would I attempt that.

sent you an envelope with postage. actually it is in the mail box, not picked up yet. finally had to have the wife do it for me. it is 18.65 in stamps, that is what the kook at the post office gave my wife.

if you don’t want to give the shirts away letme know that is fine

Pete,

Not a problem at all, they are actually Febrezed and bagged waiting for someone to love them, I will promptly package and send them to you.

kp,

Yeah it may be a hassle, I just don’t want to bomb out trying to handle weights and grooves and nerves all from the get go, I am hoping that I can get in a raw opener and then switch to the gear, if the flight is small I may just open geared and cross my fingers.

Damn, Brian…you are moving some weight. Great to see!

Looks like everything is moving along nicely.

damn bro did you leave the suit on do hit the db curls?

moving some big squats- good luck in your meet.

kmcnyc,

thanks for the compliment I am only assuming these are all to depth, I will find out for sure on 9/11.

8/26/11

Deads-w/ups- 315x3, 365x3, 405x2, 440x2 (little pull in back), 315x8, 225x5 sumo style (almost fell over on each one)

Good Mornings- 225x5, 275x5, 315x8

That is it, all done.

tear it up, gearwhore

Are you using gear wehn you DL?

Joe,

Not really, tried it once but I was gassed from getting it on + it pulled all my leg hair off so I was in a “bad place”. I will be using it this week with light weights to get a feel for it.

8/29
Squats-w/ups- 365x3 405x2 455x2 Forgot wraps, belt suit etc)

GM’s- 225x8x8x8

9/2/11

In an effort to add some intrigue for my meet in 9 days, I am now nursing a sinus infection, pulled hammy, and of course back/knee/hip pain, however I will not let this stop me from competing or changing my expectations for my lifts.

9/1/11

Deadlifts- w/ups- 405x1, 435x1, 465x1, 495x1 (all raw)

GoodMornings- 275x8 x8 315x4 (this seems to be the start of the hammy issue)

Dbell Curls- 40’s x10 70’s x8x8x8

Here is my question to you folks, on Monday I plan on taking my openers and maybe a 2nd lift in gear and then not doing anything during the week, the meet is on a Sunday so I will have 5-6 days of recovery, I made this plan before the anti-biotics and the muscle pull, but provided I feel okay should I still go through with it or just take it easy from here on out? I would like to know that I will hit all my openers geared so I don’t have to start raw and then suit up, right now I am worried about depth on the squat and touching on the bench etc.

I don’t lift in gear so keep that in mind.

I have found that, for me, anything longer than a four day lay off means I feel weak when I lift again.

How bad is the muscle pull?

For what its worth, here is how my crew typically do their openers for full power meets:

Deadlift opener 10-14 days out

Squat opener 10-12 days out

Bench opener 7 days out

That being said I would recommend you shut it down, maybe just do some light pump and fluff to stay limber through out the week.

What Pete said.

Joe,

“How bad is the muscle pull”- Pretty bad now, seemed not as bad this morning, I’m sure I will bounce back over the weekend or possibly not, plenty of ice, pills, and rest are on the horizon it seems. I agree with your comment about being too inactive for the week, I’ll probably be doing some light exercise the next week just to stay loose and feel productive.

Pete,

Got it.

Because I am stupid and easily confused I fired out the openers under the watchful eye of a fellow masters powerlifter.

Squat- 505 Good!!! He suggested I go up 100 lbs based on what he said was my “speed coming out of the hole” so yay. Thinking 600 for 2nd

Bench- 435 Good!!! Pause, Good Lockout shot right up, thinking 475 for 2nd.

Deadlift- 500 went up fine and locked out, said it looked like a Stiff Leg dead, I used my DL suit and I had to take off my belt to get down, with my recent back and hammy issues it made me somewhat hesitant. Still Good though. Thinking 550 for 2nd.

I haven’t really considered 9/9 as an option but we will see how things go, the rest of my week looks like maybe a light workout on thursday, everything between 30-50%, provided hammy still feels okay.

I try to pull my DL opener 10 days out. I’ll squat my opener and maybe even my second as close as five days out. Bench . . . doesn’t matter for me.

I wish you the very best of luck and lots of fun. Get video.

I just completed my last pseudo workout pre-contest, did lots of stretching, light, light weights, more stretching and then fought the urge to lift one last time before the meet. I am well aware that I am not going to get any stronger today, and more than likely would be even weaker on Sunday (if at all possible since I feel pretty weak right now), now all I can do is trust in my admittedly uninspired workouts to this point, hope the gear is grooved right, and try to avoid bombing out on my first lift. Finished up antibiotics the other day, already feel another Sinus infection on the way, on the plus side, my hammy feels pretty good and my back only hurts a lot.

sounds like you are in perfect shape to lift big

Absolutely. The only meet I ever walked into feeling like I was 100% ready and healthy I missed my opening squat as well as my third! Ha!

Don’t discount what the adrenaline rush will do for you at a meet.
