Have any of you guys ever just got tired of going to the gym every once and a while?
I kind of feel like just taking a week off and then getting back into it again. It’s been about a year since I took even a day off from lifting. I know a lot of people do take a week off here and there, but I was wondering.
Food wise, I’ve been cutting for the last few months and I was wondering if I should just beef up my calories a bit to more of a maintenence level for the one week as to not lose any muscle. Any thoughts on that?
Rattler’s babe of the week never takes time off though!
Yes a break from lifting is very good. it gives your cns a break and chance to reboot as well as your mental state. i take a full week off every 3 months.
same goes with diet. after a period of caloric deficit, it’s good to replenish your body and metabolism with a flow of extra calories. your body will soak them up like a sponge.
and don’t let the guilt of a little time away from the gym or being a bit lax with your diet interfere. you can’t sprint all the way all the time.

Awesome, I’m just starting to feel burnt out. I can tell my workouts are starting to lag too. I just don’t feel into it.
I’m gonna take the first week of july off, which just so happens to be my birthday week too.
Yipee!
I generally schedule one to two weeks off every 8-12 weeks of training. That said, I’m learning to make sense of internal cues and adjust my training more dynamically.
Trust your body. The more I do, the more my approach to training and well-being improve.
In the middle of 5 complete off days at the moment
I dont know why, but i just didnt feel like going to the gym this last week, a first for me so i listened to my body !
If you really dont want to, then back off for a few days and see where your head goes.
I was like this not too long ago. I forced through and it basically just got worse. Now I’m in the middle of taking about 2 weeks off (interspersed here there with a lifting session) and letting my diet relax. I’ve been cutting hard for a long time in general but I’ve been strict for about 12 weeks. I’m still making good food choices, just eating a few more calories and stuff.
Being burnt out and not taking a break just leads to prolonged periods of poor workouts etc etc etc.
Take some time off etc etc.
When you get back, your progress may actually go up to a faster rate than it had before.
Just this year I started having a deload week every 3 weeks, but have only taken a full week off from the gym completely once or twice in the past 5-6 years.
Also, I recently have been convinced the importance of nutrtion in success, and realize that I probably have been training much harder than I need to, and not focusing enough on nutrition.
Im currently trying to finish strong by AUG. at which point i’ll take a month off completely.
Then im gonna come back with a very revised training plan, and get down to business. Im really looking forward to it, and want to try some of Poliquin’s stuff, like Super compensation, and german body comp, as well as some good intensification phases.
When I do start again though, theres gonna be much more breaks, and deloads, and more focus on nutrition.
Take a week off, by the end of the week you’ll be itching to get back in the gym.
I know I should take the occassional week off, and I used to, but lately I just lose my mind when I’m inactive. I’ve actually been thinking about skipping the weights for a week, but trying to ride my bike every day of the off week just to keep my sanity. Still, I don’t know how common this is, but I tend to eat worse when I’m not training. It’s like I need the soreness to remind me to eat well.
Taking breaks are good for your body. I always take a few during the year and it never fails that my muscles seem to grow in that off week. I always come back stronger, fresher and more motivated.
Stay strict with your diet, I usually slightly increase my calories. One week is not enough to lose major amounts of muscle and as i stated…my body always seems to grow?
