Finish, wood (solid vs laminate, and type as you get on the higher end of things), hardware, and electronics will be the main differences.

I haven’t played either one of those, but I bought a new acoustic (Taylor) a year ago and those were the main differences as you moved up in price.

Ahh. Gotcha. Taylors are awesome.

They’re are made in San Diego if memory serves. Super sweet instruments.

Deering banjos are made out this way too. Bigtime pickers like Bela Fleck and popular artists like Mumford and Sons and Taylor Swift and Keith Urban all play banjos made from there. I used to live right around the corner from their facility. Pretty cool.

Saw this in the used section at GC.

Have you guys ever seen one of these before? I’m stupid not to have included the headstock as now I can’t remember the name of the thing. Next time I went back it was gone Looks like a bigsby tailpiece in a LP shape? Thought it was interesting.

Epiphones are manufactured by Samick in Indonesia as are several other lower end guitar brands.

A J-Station through the computer. That thing was really cheap and sounds good.
The Strat has Dimarzio pickups, HS-2 on the neck and HS-1 on the bridge. Don’t know what I was thinking with the last one :stuck_out_tongue:
Thanks for the comments!
Sounds great man. You make that Strat sing
BradTGIF wrote:

I hope this will suffice. I don’t have any of the floating Neck which is what makes this instrument truly unique… it just sings and sings for what seems like forever.

The sound hole isn’t in the middle of the body so it has a larger surface area to resonate and the neck actually floats above the body, it’s a beautiful thing that I got to use on my songs.

Guys, I am inspired to shred after seeing Megadeth a couple days ago. How much money should I invest in a guitar? I’ve found some for around $500 for an ESP and Dean guitars. I want to get the app that dave has for the ipad specifically for learning megadeth songs. What other resources are essential for getting started?

More toys from yet another Craiglist win:

Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (US made) and Carvin 212 cab loaded with Carvin British Series speakers.

The Fender needs some work, which I’ll do sometime soonish.

Total for both: $100.

That’s my Carvin Belair 212 in the background.

I just found this thread, awesome! Let’s see if this works…
A little improv shred.

Nice.

Is that an Ibanez? What are you playing through?

It is an Ibanez RG 470, the ash body. With EMG’s. That rig is the Carvin V3 through my ancient Marshall 1960 Vintage 4x12. I love my Marshall heads, but they are one trick ponies. The Carvin does everything.

I’m a big fan of Carvin. The BelAir is sweet too. A long time ago I was a Carvin “endorse-e” and was able to amass a bunch of gear, basses, guitars, amps, p.a. gear, ect. People love to bash Carvin, but most of the products are top notch. Just not the stuff made by Nady
