Thats not how Ouro uses her rabbit.

Great squats and deadses.

I love the bird ‘soundtrack’ of robins and cardinals in the background.

I thought she retired the rabbit and got a device that requires a 2-cycle kickstart engine? eh, well, it’s good to have a spare.

Hopefully the engine is outside or maybe she has an industrial exhaust fan. No matter, I’d like to watch her use it.

It is nice isn’t it. I live in the city but I have a nice sized property with an enormous maple that shades the entire thing.

When I’m lifting, I have my ipod plugged into my head. As much as I love the bird calls, they aren’t conducive to heavy lifting. They are however, lovely to listen to when I wake up in the morning.

lookin good!

You entire basement set up looks great. I would love to have a basement but they aren’t common in these parts for some reason.

A couple of weeks ago I made a video of my 9 year old daughter learning to squat and bench press. We were just goofing around. The link is:

Anyway, I posted it on FB and one of the Staley guys saw it and really liked it. Last night he emailed and asked if he could use it in an article he’s writing about training kids and the importance of keeping it fun. I said yes and told my daughter. She is over the moon that he asked. She is usually second fiddle to her older sister so it’s nice for her that he even asked. It made her feel special.

Joe, it’s actually my garage. My basement current hosts a mentally ill tenant who is moving out at the end of June. This is the tenant who spent several weeks in jail in the winter/spring.

I love my garage gym. It isn’t fancy but it has everything I need.

That’s awesome that she is so excited. I can’t even get my daughter to walk in the park because the route goes bt a boy’s house that she is friends with. I’m hoping I will rub off on her someday!

That is awesome news about your daughter, very cool.

In other news, my admin cheque for Worlds was cashed this morning. That train is moving forward. Yikes!

Garage is good enough. Lately the morons and brotards at my gym have been driving me mad.

Plus I put a small hole in the gym wall doing t-bar rows.

I alternate between the two. I love the garage one for the proximity. I get shit in my head that I want to try immediately and I can when it’s in my garage.

I still like the gym because I tend towards being pretty solitary and I use the gym as a bit of a social outlet. It forces me to interact at least on a superficial level. Plus I love the pure entertainment value of the morons and brotards.

Ahh, that makes sense. I’m really social and I can get distracted pretty easily if I’m not careful.

I have just filed Brotard in my vocabulary, I tried to popularize mantard, with modest sucess,
but brotard is classic.

How cool about your daughter and the article!! We had a young girl, 12 I think? compete in the meet that my boyfriend and I helped run in Missoula last March. I literally had tears in my eyes and that trembly feeling in my throat watching her deadlift! She has the advantage that her dad is a lifter as well.

It was extra cool because her older sibs (she is the youngest of three) were busy with I think track and basketball tournaments. Mom had stayed home to watch one or the other, and the youngest girl got Dad to herself at the meet. Warmed the cockles of my heart.

Our gym is also in our garage. It is an oversized double car garage and has never had a car in it, just gym equipment. I am very spoiled as it is very well equipped! And comes with a built in personal trainer and workout partners. I have not lifted in a gym setting since high school.

I’ve joined gyms a time or two in the ensuing years, but did not do much lifting. The last gym had a rule that you had to be trained to use the equipment, but they never had a trainer avail when I was. Sigh.

I don’t know if she will ever really be a lifter. I just like that she got a bit of attention; particularly in a sport I compete in. She’s a total mommy’s girl. She’s often felt like she’s in her big sister’s shadow so to be singled out even for a little thing like that is a big deal to her.

I think sometimes kids just need to watch what you’re doing and be left to their own devices to emulate you or not. I’d be thrilled for both of my daughter’s to find something that truly excites them and gets them out of bed in the morning. It doesn’t have to be the same thing as me though; just something.

You’re so lucky to have a built in trainer. Do you ever find it gets on your nerves though? I don’t think I could have done it with my husband. I need to do it my way and either fail or succeed on my own. I guess I never could be told
