Later, after groceries and driving my 15 year old daughter to meet a 15 year old boy who I had to meet while the daughter crawled into a hole, I finished…
Did he survive?
Squats looked good, really nice work. How are the hands holding up?
The boy survived. He was quite a little cutie. My daughter may not survive. I’ve already yelled at her and she isn’t even home. Who else remembers what it’s like to be a completely self centred teenager?
My hands are feeling fine. Why do you ask?
Weren’t you having callus tearing problems a little bit ago?
Yes I was. I have the memory of a goldfish. They are still ugly but aren’t tearing open any more.

I took a couple years off but I’m rediscovering my self centered-ness and I’m enjoying it. Trying to keep myself just shy of “asshole” but it slips every now and then.

was it a real yell or a yell via txt?
It was a real yell on the phone. I’m not shy about yelling.
Tonight was supposed to be in a nice air conditioned gym but because it’s a civic holiday that I worked, everything closed early. Therefore I was in the garage. It was fine. It wasn’t as hot as I thought it would be.
Warm up
Squat
45x10
95x5
135x5
165x3
195x1 - belt
225x3 - straps down
235x3 - straps down (was supposed to be 245 but I put the wrong plates on)
265x3 strapped and wrapped
275x2 "
275x2x3 "
The depth is good on most of them but it’s hard to see from the angle. I’m getting better on knowing how it feels. Sorry for the less than sweet words in a couple of sets. My ipod was playing and I didn’t realise how loud I was.
Bench
45x10
65x5
95x3
105x6x3
Rack Pulls
225x3
245x3
265x3x3
285x1
All superset with cutting the lawn and pulling weeds.
Squats looked solid- you are really pushing those knees out.
Nice work
where is the strapless vid of the lawnmowing- I have to wear cleats when I do mine.
too many hills.

Thanks. My squats are definately getting better. My opener in London is 275. Clearly it isn’t a difficult weight for me unless I’m doing triples repeatedly. Then it gets a bit tougher. It was also my opener in Ottawa that I bombed on.
I ended up cutting the lawn in my gym socks and flip flops with chalk still on my back from benching. I cut quite a fine figure let me tell you.
I got my new squat suit in the mail today. It’s a size 28 Centurian Super NXG. I have spent the last hour and 15 minutes just trying to pull it up. I’m in pain, sweating like a beast and swearing like a sailor. I still haven’t gotten it high enough to get the straps up. I think I’ll leave it for tonight. This is a bit of a longer term project that will require breaking it in a bit at a time; like starting straps down. At least it’s mostly over my hips.
When I finally get this fucker on and broken in a bit for me, it’s going to be great.
Oh, I’ve also been using Ruggerlife’s new suit sleaves. They’re kind of sweaty too. Don’t worry though RL, I’ll wash them out Thanks for letting me use them. I wouldn’t have gotten this far without them.

Oddly enough I was thinking about you as I sweated my way into the suit. This is pretty much how it’s going to be to get into a suit that’s competition fit. It will probably take weeks of steady work to break it in.

Are you planning on using it in London? Or leaving it until Provincials?

At this point the only way I’ll use it in London is for deadlift and that’s a big maybe. I have to get the straps up first. Frank says he’ll get them up on Saturday. I’m a little bit scared. Be prepared to see me with my shoulders down around my waist.

That would limit the ROM for the deadlift, assuming you can get down to the bar.
Are you training in them Saturday? Or just trying them on?

aww shucks Jules, you was thinking of me?
if you can get it over your ass, the worst is over.

I’m going to do my level best to train in it. The plan is some quarter squats straps down after I’m finished my regular squats and then dead lifts if I can get the straps up.

The centurion is cut pretty straight up and down. Fortunately, so am I. Still, it was quite a bit of fun. I just remembered you describing the fun of trying to get into that Z-suit.
Squat
45x10
95x5
135x5
165x3
195x1 - belt
225x3 straps down (fwiw, when I do straps down, I don’t use wraps)
245x3 "
255x4x3 "
275x3 straps and wraps - I used my funky do new black and lime green wraps from Titan. They are called rpm and are supposed to have more stretch and give you more revolutions. They were good.
When I went to squat I had put my stuff by the rack and went to find a collar. When I got back, there was a young guy setting up in the rack. I told him I was using it but said we could work in together and asked what he was doing. He said BB rows. I made him leave and told him to do it off the floor.
CG Bench
45x10
95x3x5
DB Bench
35x3x8
G. mornings
95x5
135x5
155x5
175x2x5
When I was done this, I tried to squat 175 and could only do a couple of reps raw. My quads were like jello. All the heavy sets are tapping me out.
Pull ups - 10 I only did these because the squats felt so weak.
Plus I only got to bed around 2 in the morning. I need at least 7 hours to be normalesque.

Who the f**k wants to be normal?
I’ll be interested in hearing about the wraps after you’ve tried them out a few times. In theory extra wraps should mean more support/rebound…in theory. Hopefully they live up to their billing!
Saturday August 8, Niagara Powerlifting club (just me and my guy)
Warm up
During my warm up I was doing shoulder retractions while I had my ipod on. He was looking at me and I said, in what I thought was my quiet indoor voice “Are you looking at my tits?” Apparently, because my music was loud, it came out like “ARE YOU LOOKING AT MY TITS???” I guess then everyone was.
Bench
45x2x10
65x5
95x3
105x1
135x2 shirt on
155x1 "
135x1 with commands
Squat
45x2x10
95x5
135x5
165x3
195x1 belt
225x2 suit on straps down
255x1 straps down, loose wraps
275x1 straps up, wraps
295x1 "
315x1 " PR - I finally got my three plat squat.
This is the 295 and 315: squat 315 singles week 3 - YouTube The depth is borderline on 315 but I finally got it up. Also, I had taken a few herbal diuretics last night to assist in getting in the new suit. They worked and putting my old suit on was like pulling on a pair of jeans. If I can hit 315 in such a loose suit, it will be a lot easier when it’s a bit tighter.
New Suit work. It was much easier to get into today since I got the virgin stiffness out of it but it is still tight as fuck.
squat
225x3 straps down
275x1 straps down/loose wraps
295x1 straps up. This was ugly. With the straps up I could barely breathe and felt suffocated. When I un-racked, the bar was dancing all over and kept banging into the rack.
315x2. These were better but were only 1/4 squats. It is going to take a lot of work to break it in but it’s going to be good once it is.
Deadlift
135x5
225x3 straps down
275x1 straps up
295x1 "
315x1 " Another PR for me. My shoulders are rounded from being forced forward in the new suit. I’m going to have to focus on pulling them back harder. However, the lift was pretty easy and I think I can add another 20lbs.
Here is my “Make me feel better math” … My 315 at 56kg is equivalent to 388 at the 75kg (165lb) weight class This is the most populated weight class.
