leave the forms as they are. No more no less.
I believe that most are of the opinion that another board would be overkill. And I don’t know that those who say “yea, let’s do it” would activly participate on the board anyway; some would, but I bet a lot wouldn’t.
Keep in mind that a lot of posts on the t/n board overlap the categories training and nutrition; that’s probably why it is the way it is and we’ve been doing just fine having things that way.
I would proably read that forum a bit more than some of the others, but my gut feeling is that is would degenerate quickly into a bunch of name calling and “my art can kick your art’s ass” threads, which is how they often end up in any mixed martial arts forum.
Not to threadjack, but I take my next rank test in Aikido tomorrow. You guys wish me luck: 60 different techniques, defense against club, knife, and jo, and then 4 person randori (spar). I’ve been upping the cardio tremendously to keep my wind up. It’s going to be brutal.
Thanks for all the feedback. A few comments:
I too am a little worried about having too many categories. I know some “bodybuilding” sites where even Off Topic is broken into a dozen different sections. It’s way too much. Then again, the most successful boards (in many fields, not just BBing) tend to have a lot of categories.
I agree, it sounds like there’s no need for a MA board right now. However, I always have to balance this with the fact that there are many who always give a kneejerk and enthusiastic “no!” whenever any type of change is mentioned. Still, no need for a MA board at this time it sounds like.
I like training and nutrition topics (and by extension supplementation) to be on the same board. Char pretty much nailed it. I also like it because it gives us a main board. I think it’s important to have a primary board, then a few subcategories. T/N is our primary board.
This new forum gives us the opportunity to try a lot of cool things – the Guest Forum for example, which was very successful. The new forum is also very flexible, meaning that we can add or delete new categories easily. Maybe one day we’ll try a MA board and if it fails, we zap it. No problem.
The key is to be open to new ideas. Try them out, play around with them, see what happens, then judge them. The risk is small when compared to the danger of playing it safe. (That little aside goes way beyond T-forum issues of course!)
Thanks again for the feedback.
