Hey, I just recieved my first shipment of Surge today, and while I know many of you love the taste, I simply don’t. Although it might smell like angel food cake, it tastes like crap going down. I’m wondering if 1) mixing surge with something else like Gatorade or orange juice (or any other juice) would diminish any effects of Surge, and 2) If you have any recipies of your own to share about mixing Surge. Thanks much in advance!
Don’t mix it with stuff. You may compromise the formula.
Honestly, I didn’t like it much the first time I tried it, either, but the taste quickly grew on me.
Give it a few days first, and then see if you still need adjust it.
Some simple things you might try, in the mean time, are mixing with more water/less water, cold water/warm water, etc.

I agree with most of this but I still think it leaves an aftertaste like ass. What I do is mix it in a pint glass (proper pint, not 16 oz USA) and when there’s about two mouthfuls left, I add more water. I can stomach it that. For some reason, it’s always the last part that tastes bad.
I don’t get the “fantastic taste” that other people talk about, but neither is it completely repulsive. But I wouldn’t describe it as “God coming in your mouth!” like one of the other forumites.
Maybe some of this is relative. I remember when I first drank a post-workout drink I thought “If I ever tasted anti-freeze, then this is probably what it would taste like”. So compared with that, Surge is heavenly. Sometimes my last mouthful or two can be gritty or foamy, so I also add an extra ounce or two of water. It also helps get the last bit out.
Don’t add anything besides creatine to it. You don’t want any more carbs in there. One trick is to add a flavored creatine product to it, if you get tired of the vanilla.
Cold water is better. Cold. Not cool.
As far as the taste, shit I fucking HATE angel food cake. Imagine how I felt reading post after post about the wonderful angel food cake taste.
But, says I to self, if it’ll help…it’ll be worth it.
It doesn’t taste like that.
It’s addicting. That’s where they hide the steroids and crack I think. Sometimes, when I’m really tired or something and don’t want to lift, I motivate myself by thinking of the Surge at the end. Seriously.
I’ve mixed a little chocolate Grow@ with my post workout Surge and that tastes really good. I have also added a serving of Power Drive and it gives it a nice orange flavor.
Of course, I don’t mind the taste of Surge too much except that I think it tastes very sweet. But then, I’m not a big sweet eater.
Why are you trying to mess with Surge? That’s like getting a new Ferrari right off the showroom floor and saying - “I need to fix this car so it will drive right.”
It’s not the car…er…Surge - it’s you. Give it 30 days and see if it doesn’t become a craving for you PWO. The taste will get better. And if left without it for extended periods of time you will go thru withdrawal symptoms like a crack whore.

Don’t dis’ antifreeze! That’s some tasty stuff–ask any dog.
As for Surge, I cannot see how people dislike it. If I was a rich man with a hummingbird’s metabolism and a pancreas-of-steel, I’d drink two tubs of the stuff each day. And I’d be very happy about it.
Sorry I didn’t have anything legitimate to add to the thread. I’ve never added anything to Surge except creatine and water. It just seems to be a hit-or-miss supplement, palatably speaking. Most people either love it or despise it.

I trained with Berardi for awhile. He actually had me mixing gatorade with my Surge because I couldn’t stomach it, it wasn’t giving me any benefit, and later because I was training for triathlon.
As far as compromising the formula? Honestly, think of it this way… Surge with additional dextrose (assuming you are smart and use powdered gatorade) won’t hurt more then no Surge at all. And if you are worried about dextrose some how destroying this “pixidust” then get some atkins morning start mix (atkins version of crystal light) and mix to taste. In the world of it all I wouldn’t be concerned with the “ideal” solution. In reality, as Berardi showed me, the ideal solution couldn’t be sold in 1 form… bottom line… if adding something (with in reason) helps you get it down… go for it.
Think about it this way…
Surge may not be the best product (in years to come). Hell if we didnt change products for the sake of it being the latest technology, we would still be on vinyl records and pure protein shakes.
Before anyone flames me… I live and die by Surge and for 9 months I haven’t missed it after a workout.

I’m pretty sure I’ve read some of JB’s articles where he talks about drinking his post-wo Surge with gatorade - but I’m also pretty sure his workouts are intense enough to justify it.
You could try adding some flavor concentrate - i.e. vanilla extract or the stuff Shuggart says his wife got during her Velocity Vixen Diet. You should be able to noticably change the flavor without causing too much havoc to the P/C ratios.
I think the taste is decent, but I water it down about 1.5 - 2 times as much as the directions call for. Otherwise it’s just too strong.
And I’ve tried anti-freeze and for the record, it’s delicious. Now motor oil on the other hand, that stuff is nasty.
The things I would suggest

Mix it with COLD water and use more water if you don’t like sweet things… give this a try for awhile as me personally and a few others I know grew to love the taste after a little while though we didnt like it much at first.

Power Drive does add a nice taste but unless your made of money probably not a great option though CT made a comment about post workout Power Drive helping CNS recovery (which makes sense). Gatorade or Crystal Light powder should work well too.
How about plugging your nose with your fingers and chugging? Works with tequila!;]
The first few times I drank Surge i had a horribly difficult time. I’m not quite sure how but I’ve grown a taste for it; I enjoy drinking it now.
And definitely take those guys’ word for it, cold water makes a big difference.
Mix it w/ crystal light, gatorade powder, different sweeteners(splenda). Be creative. It won’t mess it up in anyway. Just eat a lot of food around your workout. Plenty of protein and carbs. That’s good that you’re drinking Surge during the workout. Just make sure to eat plenty of whole foods when you’re done w/ the gym.
Agreed on the cold water. I always have some ice chunks in my shake mixer when I make it before a workout.
I also wasn’t crazy about it at first and now love it.
When I am trying to lean out, I only use half a serving of Surge and I use one and half scoops of chocolate Muscle Provider made by Beverly International.
I swear to God, this mix tastes EXACTALLY like Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate, marshmallows and all.

I remember someone saying they brewed some iced green tea and mixed that with Surge, I havn’t tried that yet. Surge with Power Drive is quite yummmy, like a orange cream somthing…But I love the taste of Surge as is, though the last few gulps of foam and creatine grit is a little yucky.
