If I can only afford 2 serves of a portein/carb combo for my workouts eg Surge, would it be best to have my 2nd serve before working out or sip it throughout??
I think the accepted policy is half a serving during workout, half after.
I personally have changed to using my Surge Pre w/o almost in totality. I slam half of it 1/2 hr pre w/o then the other half during my general warm up.
Seems to work for me.
Then Either have more Surge or just some Fast carbs immediate post, followed by a BIG ole meal an hour later,
Experiment find what works for you nad give you the best workout energy and returns.

“Accepted policy”? I’d take it one step further and say it’s become T-Nation forum dogma.
Since absorption is incomplete when the drink is consumed before exercise, the effects would be compromised to an even greater extent when consumed during and after.
Having said that, it’s all just splitting hairs.

Unless you blow chunks during. Then it would be after.
Dave,
I know you’ve recommended in the past that consuming a drink during the w/o can cause some gastro stress. Is that also responsible for incomplete absorption? If that is so, how long before the w/o will give good absorption rates?
I know your lab is working on some aspects of pre-w/o nutrition.
thanks,
Gary

Like Dave Barr and a few others said, I take half during and half after.
My friends, on the other hand, have weaker stomachs and have to take both scoops directly afterward.

Guys I wasn’t totally clear, so I need to clarify some things…
First, I’m saying that although pre workout meals can be twice as effective as post workout, this occurs because of delayed intestinal absorption. Fortunately, this isn’t a bad thing for us.
Now if that happens when we consume pure amino acids before exercise, having Surge during exercise will result in an even greater delay. This is not good. It won’t kill us, but won’t be as effective.
Also, the current dogma is half before half after, but I absolutely despise dogma. That’s really another thread altogether… LOL
Sorry for any confusion!
Dave,
I have 1 serving during and 1 serving after. Will my colon blowup, my hamstrings atrophy and will I grow he-tits if I continue to do this?
Thanks

I do, however, like the movie Dogma.
Thanks for the clarification.
