If an alien wanted to watch the Olympics to see what epitomised the best of human performance what event would you direct et to?
Wrestling.
Marathon.
Scrap that. Triathlon.
Gymnastics
Decathlon. End of thread.
Running and flipping are part of a wrestlers training.
Wrestling is strength and grace with obvious work on cardiovascular conditioning.

You win.

10 events in one, yeh sure I agree but if it were just one event, which one would you pick?
Triathlon seems pretty reasonable considering it happens all in one go and I was also thinking Marathon - way to go DN! Ultra endurance events are hard to beat when it comes to pure physical strain and mental toughness.
Yea sure an alien how well we can run and swim and ride bikes for hours
Bore em to death plz

Haha, dang it.
I agreed with DB but since you put it that way, I’ll have to stick with Marathon then ![]()
Since we’re talking about performance, I was also leaning toward weightlifting and tracks sprints. But Marathon beats them all.
The level of endurance from the marathon athletes is just amazingly undeniable.

I think gymnastics is impressive and one of my favourite events to watch but gymnastics is an an example of pure specification i.e. each competitor is usually very small and usually very young (females) in comparison to other athletes competing in other events, which imo is not representative of the general population, whereas the running events fit more into what most people can do and for that matter participate in worldwide so one can use these events as a gauge to human performance - but there are other events, which are way cooler to watch…

Haha!
I’ll then tell the alien to check beach volleyball or synchronized swimming if he’s bored.

Ha!
Decathalon
a 56kg man lifting three times his bodyweight over head or show him how long we can put one leg in front of the other for? -_-
It would depend on the tendencies of the aliens. We’d probably want to show them something we’re good at that they are not. If they had endurance down pat, they’d scoff at a marathon, thinking how pathetic us silly meatbags are to call that impressive; but they’re be amazed at oly lifters. Of course vice versa applies.

Ok here is a picture of the alien. It has no arms or legs! Locomotion is achieved via telekinesis, so oly lifting v table tennis are equally as interesting. It has no testicles so macho shit just dont fly! As you see by its face it is not easily amused so judo v pistol shooting probably hold the same entertainment value. Tits n ass wont cut it either (refer back to lack of testicles) so beach volley ball automatically drops major pointage. Although it looks Canadian it is not’ so affiliation to a given country is non existent, cuz well its an alien! This is purely an exercise in objective thinking for the benefit of our buddy in the picture…

Good point, but look at the men who do the rings, parralell bars and tumbling they are not small or young girls.
If I had to choose another event it would be the sprinting (100m, 200m and 400m)
I think it would be awesome if rock climbing or bouldering became an olympic sport.
