The story linked makes some good points for and against having motorsports in the Olympics. Personally I’d much rather see Travis Pastrana, Nicky Hayden, and Little E tearing around a track looking for Olympic gold instead of some of the events he have now (synchronized swimming? please).

I can accept bikes (road, track, bmx) at the Olympics. No horses, cars or motorcycles please.
I’m also not sure I understand why there’s boats at the games, but since we won gold in the 49’er I’m guessing I’m pretty biased.
Also ban synchronized swimming. I mean everywhere. Not just the olympics. And force all TV stations to show more than 6 seconds of weightlifting.
I was wondering the same thing about the horses. How much of it is the horse’s ability and not the rider’s?
And if they are going to TELEVISE things like synchronized diving and table tennis, why can’t they put something like sevens rugby in?

Motorsports in the olympics? Hell no. It would be about the machinery more than the ‘athlete’ driving it IMO.
Any event where you cannot standardise the equipment should not be an olympic event IMO.
So that rules out cycling, boating, shooting, etc. too.
My thoughts exactly, just like Formula 1, the drivers (albeit highly skilled) are really highly compensated and easily replaceable employees.
They have little/no influence on the outcome of the race…
I think 7s would be awesome. I play regular Union, but havent seen a 7s match, but the impression I have of it, is that it is more crowd friendly: Faster pace, simpler rules/gameplay.

Let’s face it, bottomless beach volleyball would be more practical.
I’d like to see full intercourse volleyball…you’ve have 6 women getting banged in various positions on both sides of the net…they’d have to manage to play volleyball while getting banged…think of the possibilities…the camera angles…the need for training partners…the difficulty the announcers would have in describling the action…“Well Bob…little Nancy Chaputke returned that serve extremely well considering she’s got a nine inch cock up her ass…doggy style to boot…talk about overcoming adversity…”

…But yeah, no motorsports. I want my athletes to do something physically demanding.
You haven’t been on a dirtbike lately, have you?
I’ve never had a weight training session in the gym that would equal some of the times I’ve lifted my motorcycle over wet logs at chest height at 8,000 ft. above sea level in the mud and snow while straining to extract every last oxygen molecule in the atmosphere into my lungs.
In other words, the motorsports I have participated in have been far more physically demanding than what you might expect.
Oh, by the way, come to Montana this winter and I’ll put you on a snowmobile in the mountains in seven feet of fresh powder and then you’ll come back and edit your post here. I promise.
It’s true. I’ve never ridden either a dirtbike or a snowmobile, though I’ve always wanted to. My only bikes are cruisers… I should have been more clear in any case–dirtbike/motocross hadn’t entered my mind.
I was thinking about NASCAR etc. I’m pretty sure the whole body has to work substantially in motocross/supercross events, although pachell’s link has forced me to rethink that as well.
I may have to take you up on that offer though. I’ve wanted to get to Montana for years now and do some climbing and hiking.
