Supraspinatus Tear

Apologies to anyone who has a similer injury and wanted to take a look at what’s up - I accidentally deleted this. Will try to re-create.

2001 injured r shoulder, MRI results

Partial thickness articular surface tear of the leading edge supraspinatus tendon. No convincing evidence of a full thickness tear. trace fluid in the subacromial subdeltoid bursa.

DOc offered to stitch it up - but said recovery would take months, and i opted to let it “heal” on its own. Now lifting regulary again for several months and I think I have re-torn or stressed it (possible?)

Can’t do much in the way of benching, even w/ db - 70 lbs is max it will take without pain from the first rep. Even lighter weights hurt after several reps. Can still do flys, very lite laterals.

ALl I know is that I just had rotator cuff repair (Jan 10) of the supraspinatus tendon and it suuuuucks.Mine did not tear from the bone, it tore from itself in the middle of the tendon. When the doc went in, he found an old tear that I didnt know about.

This likely attributed to the new tear, which was an odd shaped “V” in the top of the tendon. I would really look into having it done because if the tendon is weak it is weak. After the tear and before the surgery I could still deadlift, shrug, squat and do later delt work. no overhead and absolutely no benching.

Maybe go back in for an MRI to see if anything has happened.

Hey BP - thanks for the response, although it was not what I wanted to hear.

I am scheduled for an new MRI coming up. No choice. Felt pain doing pushups this PM. Fuck - I can’t even do pushups now?

I am considering dropping most anything that involves the shoulders until I can get htewm to take a look - see.

Can I have more detail on the repair? Looks like i may be headed in that direction…

I have a full thickness tear in my right shoulder, and osteolysis in both. I was diagnosed in April of last year and scheduled for surgery in November for the tear. At that time it hurt so bad it would wake me up if I rolled over on it, I couldn’t even bench the bar with out pain. I did a lot research and found that GH post surgery aided recovery. Do a search if youre interested.

I started on 2 ius of GH a day in May and have been doing that pretty much 5 on 2 off ever since. In October my shoulder didn’t hurt so I started experimenting w db’s again and what I found out- the pain was gone. I progressed in weight until I was pushing in the 200’s again on bench. I do use a very narrow grip on the bar and only use db for incline work.

My ortho cancelled the surgery and said if it starts bothering you again we’ll fix it. I asked him if it would get worse and he said 50 percent get bigger and 50 percent stay the same regardless.

I can still feel some weakness and anything over 225 can is painful. If you have surgery it will take 4-6 months to really heal. I may get it fixed and then again maybe not.

Besides the GH, I also take:
Knox Gelatine w/ Glucosamine and Chondrotin, Cissus and use topical Ketoprofen and Ibuprofen post work out. DECA in moderate amount make me feel 20 years younger. Good luck…

Thanks for the input - knowledge is ammo. My MRI is next week. Then I will know where I really stand.

Well, I am fucked it looks like. MRI tech wouldn’t give me info just said “plenty to look at here” then scheduled X-rays on the spot. Got all the film results back.

Yep Now it is torn all the way through. Partial thickness tear in 2001 is now a 3mm full thickness tear.

Verbiage form the report is beyond my understanding to some extent:

MRI: Moderate acromiclavicular hypertrophy with productive change. Focal full thickness tear at the insrtion of hte supraspinatus tendon measures 3mm and is 3mm from the insertion site. No focal labral abnormality seen. Biceps tendon present within the groove.

I think the acrom. hyper. is a change in the Acromioclavicular joint as a result of injury compensation. The tear is at the point where the tendon attaches to the humerus. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

X-ray: mild acdro. hyper seen. Normal bony trabeculation.

That doesn’t sound bad. But indicates that joint is compromised enough so that any technology will pick up the change.

Have a consult with ortho in 2 weeks. In the meantime, I am afraid to do much of anything. What happens if the thing tears completely loose? Does my arm not raise to the side? Pop out of the socket? Fuck.

I am hoping this can be fixed with artho surgery, so as to minimize recovery time. Unlike last time, I think I will go ahead and get this fixed instead of simply using therapy. It is obviously progressive, and will only continue to worsen with time.

If anyone is a med proffessional and can give me a cleaer understanding, I would appresciate it. Also, input form other guys with this surgey welcome.

Thanks.

Well that sucks balls. Here’s the thing, when I was researching full thickness tears, many can be scoped, however, many require open repair and according to my Ortho the surgeon really can’t tell until he can actually can see what needs to be done. Good luck and keep your thread updated.
