Yeah-I think this is the reason. Although, I don’t know how necessary top-notch acting would be for this type of movie. They also someone who they think will be box-office. In Hollywood, this is more important than comic-book realism.
I disagree with this. The movies like this that have done the best at the box-office are the ones that stayed the most true to the comic book storyline and image. The first Spiderman movie was as if they took it straight from the pages aside from some minor alterations. If they have any sense, they’ll return to using the comics as a guide like they supposedly did with the new Batman movie. The comic books have had half a century to get the story just right. Why ignore them for “actor credibility”? The Star Wars flicks used relatively unknowns and now the originals are classics. Christopher Reeves was the same.
The movies that deviated too much failed…like The Punisher (much less graphic than the comic to make it “kid-friendly”) and Daredevil (not dark enough even though the director’s cut added some needed scenes that made it work better).
I think they need to get guys who grew up actually reading the comics to direct the movies. It may just be why X-men did so well.

Batman - I don’t understand how you demand that Batman be HUGE, it doesn’t make sense given the gymnastic style fighting he uses. Bulky = slow = dead ass batman.

Actually if he did mainly olympic and explosive lifts, wouldn’t that make him both huge and fast? It seems like all the top fighters are huge for their height, which is usually pretty short. Maybe my idea of huge is smaller…

they should have used the dude that plays superman in the show Smallville. He doesn’t look gay, and shirt off the dude is very well defined.
Well the thing is that he doesn’t even have to be very well defined. I’m sure Brandon Routh is a lean guy, but he looks like he has 14" arms, so who cares. The costume could make up for a lack of definition, but the person wearing it at least needs to be able to fill it out.
Oh here’s a scary thought for all you X-Men fans. I hear that Brett “Rush Hour” Ratner has signed on to direct X3. I just don’t see him doing the franchise justice.

I agree with you. I haven’t really read the comics in depth. But I think the best (and most successful) movies of this genre have been the ones that have stayed most true to the comics. However I still think there has been a big counter-push to use established, bankable stars that they THINK will bring in the most money (ie. Daredevil). It just hasn’t turned out that way. Sin City looks like it’s accomplished both-staying true to the comics and using known actors (and actresses-Jessica Alba!) Hopefully it will be good.

I was actually searching for a picture of the black Supes costume (I thought Mage’s was cool and wanted to find some others), and came across this little blurb. Thought it was kind of cool:
Other Miscellaneous Superman Stuff
Did You Know?
Muhammad Ali - Black Superman
Did you know that Muhammad Ali used to refer to himself as the Black Superman?
There was even a song called “Black Superman-Muhammad Ali” by Johnny Wakelin & The Kinshasa Band. The main lyrics were:
Sing, Muhammad, Muhammad Ali
He floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee
Muhammad, the black superman
Who calls to the other guy I'm Ali catch me if you can.
Which brings to mind one fantastic story…
At the height of his fame, Muhammad Ali was settling into his plane seat when an air hostess came and gently reminded him to put on his seatbelt.
“Superman don’t need no seatbelt”, Ali snorted.
“Superman don’t need no airplane”, the hostess retorted, a winner by knockout.
I also read somewhere on that same site that Josh Hartnett actually turned down the role of the new Superman. I just thought that was interesting since someone mentioned here that he would have made a good choice…
The funny thing is that I own the 45 of this song. I suppose that might be worth a little sumpin’ sumpin’ on eBay.
I have always wondered something about Superman. He can probably lift a building quite easily, so imagine what he would have to lift to build big muscles. If a building is like his 15RM (and this may be an underestimate), then what does he have to lift in order to build significant muscle? Unless he was born jacked? Damn genetics!

Just so you know, the average age of PS2 owners is 29. You must clearly be over 50.
I’m 50 on the nose and I love comics as matter of fact I’m going to the Comic-Con in July. I collect the books, watch the movies, collect the cards, statues, bust and anything else that has the characters on them. Owe and by the way I owe the X-Box!

Here’s something scarier…they picked Kelsey Grammer as the actor to play Beast in X-men 3.
