Sunflower Oil Benefits?

What are the benefits of adding Sunflower Oil to MRP’s? I see many companies doing this including Biotest in GROW.

I would expect it’s because sunflower oil has a nice, balanced O3 to O6 ratio and tastes reasonably pleasant.

Sunflower oil does not have a good ratio of n-3:n-6. In the low linoleic variety, the oil is primarily oleic (mono), which is good.

Yeah, unfortunately, sunflower seed oil is 65% w6, 23% w9 and 12% saturated, as per Udo Erasmus’ book, “Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill.”

Some people in our society that are unaware of the importance of good fats and the importance of balancing the ratio of good fats eat as high as 20:1 w6:w3. The result is any number of pro-inflammatory health conditions.

fedorov, my best guess is that sunflower seed oil is more stable(i.e., not easily oxidize) than something like flaxseed oil and less likely to oxidize and go rancid. Just make sure you continue to supplement with your Omega 3s (w3s), which are anti-inflammatory and balance out your Omega 6s (w6s).

So should Sunflower oil be avoided?

Whay aren’t other BENEFICIAL fats added to MRP’s? Is it because their structure would be destroyed?

Why does classic GROW! contain regular Sunflower Oil while LOW CARB GROW! contain high-oleic SUnflower Oil?

I have Tom Venuto’s book Burn the Fat, in it he suggests mixing 3 parts flax with one part sunflower to make a blend something like Udo’s.

Besides what’s been covered, as a rule I wouldn’t assume any particular ingredient used in processed food is in there because it’s beneficial. My first guesses would be that it improves shelf-life, taste or texture. If it were a wonder-supplement they’d have it in bold red letters on the front of the package, not just the ingredients label.

Granted Biotest is a quality company and they won’t be feeding you crap, but to get an MRP palatable surely some compromises have to be made. Anyway, the GROW! products are so low in fat that whatever they put in there won’t have huge impact anyway. That’s not what we expect from a protein drink.
