Substance Testing in the Olympics?

Hey all, I don’t post often but I read lot’s of posts here.

Obviously she is lying, olympic caliber athletes have no choice but to gear up in order to be competitive for a medal finish. I’ve no first hand knowledge of doping in athletics (I’m a track and field athlete not bodybuilding, so bear with me), but a trainer I’ve met has worked with German and Czech athletes and describes it as a dirty dirty world. Basically steroids are nearly as prevalent in olympics as they are in professional body building.

My question is; does anyone know how certain preferred athletes “slip” past drug tests, either by working or knowing someone who works for anti-doping agencies? Carl Lewis is probably the best example I can think of for a sport that carefully tests most athletes. Bodybuilding, can someone explain how that works in terms of testing… is there any urine/blood testing in the IFBB?

I can’t think of anything short of pulling a last minute blood vial switch.

Check out the book “Steroid Nation” by Shaun Assael. He goes into this in some depth, both pro sports athletes and Olympians.

I find it interesting how you post here using such negative turns of phrase, not much different than 99% of the biased misinformed media do on the subject…Self-righteous claptrap.

Not much of a realist, are you

Oh, and the author of “Steroid Nation” is a yellow-journalistic exploitation mongering hack…You will hang on his every word as Gospel, I’m sure…

Well, it is “dirty” in the sense that the olympic games are supposed to be all about sportsmanship, fair play, and such. Not about who has the best drug programs… But it’s about winning, and setting new records, which would be damn near impossible without the drugs. As long as everyone has access to the same drugs, I think it’s fair.

After all, the olympic motto is “Citius, Altius, Fortius” (faster, higher, stronger)…

No, you just corrupt the IOC and place political pressure on them not to fail your athletes. That’s how it’s done.

I presonally don’t consider steroid use “dirty”, and I’m well aware of what the truth is and what society’s image of athletics is.

I think you misinterpreted my post, thanks for clarifying that you didn’t actually read it you just skimmed it.
