Suboptimal Sleep

Anyone who is anal about sleep and sleeping conditions should join the military. This will cure you of your sleep problems once you return to civilian life. You learn that you can sleep under any conditions if you are tired enough. I once read somewhere that no one ever died from lack of sleep, so why worry about it?

I have been known to postpone a workout if I get less than 4 or 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep in a night, however.

i hear ya man, my brother in law is in the military. youre right, you will crash if youre mentally and physically drained…

A two part sleep article has been done before, use the search engine to find it.

I’ve found that the best cure for insomnia is to wake up at the same time every day. The article I’m talking about says to think of your bed as just a place for sleep (and sex, obviously). That means no eating, watching tv, or reading. My psych proff. also talked about getting up and moving to another room after 15 minutes of just lying there. After a short time (less than 5 minutes), move back to bed. This probably helps the body/mind view the bedroom as a place of rest.

Whenever I get tired from lack of sleep, I think about BUD/S trainees (Navy SEALs). During Hell Week, those guys get less than 5 hours of sleep from monday-friday. Plus they’re physically exerting themselves almost the entire time. If thinking about that doesn’t kick you in the ass and make you stop bitchin, well then, you’re just a bitch.

Hope this helps.

I need some sleep…

Just to clarify for those reading with thick skulls and didn’t get what Carter said:

The SEALs don’t get five hours a night, they get five hours TOTAL for Monday-Friday.
