This one trainer at my gym had a client who wanted to learn how to bench press. The trainer told her that it’s the most useless exercise and by far the most dangerous. The trainer then flipped a BOSU ball over, had the client lie down on it, took the foam roller I was using and put it under her client’s feet, and gave her 2.5 dumbells to do flyes with…

He deserves to have his testicles tied to a bridge then be pushed off.
The fact of the matter is, a lot of trainers out there dont know their ass from a hole in the ground. Yea there are some trainers on this site, and yea you may have some knowledge, Inc cookie. But looking around at the trainers im surrounded by on a daily basis, im absolutely horrified at what they have people do.
I swear they just take an exercise, put it on a bosu ball, and now its a fantastic way to sculpt core and burn body fat. Its almost as if they are just given a notebook with exercises Day 1 on the job and are told to follow that outline. They wouldn’t know their rectus femoris from their sternocleidomastoid, nor would i grant them the benefit of the doubt of having any knowledge whatsoever in the means of Dieting.
I recall a time where a trainer walked past me to a guy working out on a machine. i wouldnt say this guy was big (muscular or fat), but the trainer comes up, asks his goals (to which he responds ‘pack on muscle’) And immediately suggests A Bodybugg to the guy. One can only LoL at these people.
The whole idea that muscular people were born muscular, skinny people were born skinny, and all we can do is do cardio and “tone” to expose the muscles we have and hope for the best.
Ya, dumbass trainers!
I was deloading one week, squatting a little just to get stretched out, and these complete dumbass trainers are benching 315 for a few reps. eer i mean wait
ok ok how about this, this one trainer in my gym is so fucking jacked, but get this, hes short! ya douche!
errrr wait guys…ok ok heres one
I was deadlifting, not a lot of weight or anything, but all of a sudden this skinny PRICK of a trainer came to tell me to put my shoes on…er wait no he didnt, he told me to stop dropping the weight…errr no he didnt, he told me the grocery store next store is bitching, so put some yoga pads under the weights and go nuts.

I am so jealous of your gym haha, we have 2 of those guys, and one is gone away for a couple months.
Seriously, lucky you =(
Good Lord, where the hell do some of you guys train…?
I must say the only PT’s I’ve come across have all been in pretty good shape(none very big that that’s just personal choice). They were all pretty strong as well, depsite not being very large. And none have had the cheek to come over to me and tell me I was doing something wrong or unsafe…
Actually, when I was on work experiance in a gym, one of the resident PT’s(a guy who really knew his stuff) was with a tubby 30-something female client. She spoke so much to the trainer that I actually took notice that it was the only thing she seemed to do. Then as she stopped pressing halfway through a set she blamed him for ‘‘distracting me by constantly talking!’’. He was counting reps and giving some encouragement.
Upon chatting to the other gym staff, I learned that she herself was a personal trainer who gave actually gave advice on a local radio station! She looked like she’s never set foot in a gym before! I also learned that she had gone through a rake of PT’s who couldn’t handle her and the gym staff admitted she just didn’t want to do the work.
i was in the squat rack squatting 500 pounds and this trainer comes up to me like “excuse me, are you going to be done soon?” and im like, ‘no’.
fucking dumbasssssssss
Its not so much the things some of these “Pt’s” say that kill me, but the the blatant scumbag things a few of them do.
At golds, the most rampant thing i see is the trainers placing hands where they shouldn’t go. This one girl was on the hack squat (plateless style) and the pt kept his hand a little too far up her thigh. You don’t even need a spot on the damn machine anyway! Another I’ve seen is a girl doing squats in the rack, and the pt has his hands on her hips. Wtf? It wasn’t heavy, and I’m pretty sure you place your hands on the ant. delts or the bar itself to spot that exercise.
Ugh!

you actually get behind the person and put your arms under theirs and then you lock your hands together.

I wear Chuck Taylors when training. Last month I put up 405 for 3 reps on squats with my wife spotting me. A trainer came up and told me my shoes would cause my feet to flatten out if I kept going heavy. Even asked me to make sure next time I had proper footwear the next time I come in to the gym!!!
Then he turns to my wife (5’4", 115lbs, 12%BF, max bench 135lbs) told her to stop lifting so heavy and stop the free weights as women who do this will end up looking like a man.
Dumbass!!!
Other than this dickhead the majority of the trainers are cool and in very good shape where I train.[/quote]
I think I would have lost my temper if he told my wife she was going to make herself look like a man.

Thanks for the clarification, and also further pointing out that said PT was being a perv and fondling a customer. I’m gonna burn that guy sooner or later, he does this shit all the time.
Had to dig this thread up 'cos this annoyed me so much.
All the staff at my gym are really cool people. If they see me out in the streets and such they’ll always say hello and sometimes even stop for a quick chat. One trainer in particular really knows his stuff and is a really nice guy. Now this gym closed down for a few months in the summer so while it was closed I moved to a better equipped gym that was kinda out of my way. The staff up there came in two varieties, really cool or douchebags. There were two male trainers and one was pretty cool but the other was the douchebag. Anyways, my old gym opened back up and I promptly found my way back there, despite it’s lack of equipment, I love training there.
But they had hired the douchebag from my replacement gym. He was the only staff member there that I didn’t say hello to when I saw them. One day last week I was made my way to the(only) squat rack and he had a 30-ish year old male client there deadlifting 65lbs off blocks. I asked politely if they would mind stepping back a few feet so that I could use the rack(the entire weights area was empty at the time) and he gave me one hell of a dirty look before saying ‘‘yeah no problem, we’re only training here…’’.
I actually laughed when he said that. Plus I turned my iPod down from time to time and I heard him more than once explaining to a his client why I was training all wrong and going to hurt myself etc.
He only moved 'cos a customer had asked him to, but he made it clear that he thought I was being rude.
Some trainers are just funny.
