Stunning Lack of Lower Body Work at the University Gym

One of my best friends is exactly like this, when he enters the gym he’s usually benching more than anyone else, huge upper body development, but chicken legs.

I’ve tried to get him into leg work, but it’s just not worth it to him, too much work for a bodypart that “doesn’t look near as cool”.

I can sqaut and deadlift more than he can, but my bench is like 205 x 5, and his is like 275 x 5, makes me feel like he’s leaps and bounds ahead of me, and he used to be a football player etc.

Since I discovered the art of training legs, they have become one of my more favorite bodyparts, but sqauts are still the most difficult excersize and the one I least look forward too, and I NEVER skip, how hard you work on squats = how much you Grow!

haha i dont find that, i’ve pounded the squats and deadlifts for a couple years now, and i’m pretty sure my upperbody(on the front, back is a different story) has not gained anything from this tbh

(note, i started training “beach muscles” a couple years prior to this)

I watched a guy with 20+ inch arms squat 455 for quarter reps today like a belt and wraps. His legs/butt are about the size of mine. I am 5’10 165-8 with 14" arms and 23.75" legs. Sad story when your arms are on par with your legs.

A guy with 20+ inch arms and no legs.
I’m having trouble believing this one.

It’s definitely not impossible. There’s a dude at my gym who is very much like this as well. This dude is HUGE across the shoulders and arms. His arms are very easily 20"+, yes there is almost no way his calves measure anything over 14". It’s really bazaar to see him walk in, as he looks very…top heavy.

I was driving by an LA Fitness once and saw a man who easily had 19+ inch arms but his thighs were dwarfed by them

I have puny calves 14 1/2 standing flat feet and decent thighs 25" I train legs hard all the time and sadly the calves don’t respond size wise. Strength is not a problem but in shorts I fit that all upper no lower body.

they also all look at me really funny when i do mobility work and use bands to warm up and decompress my spine a la dave tate and other T-Nation learned items. this topic is useless.
Translation: Everyone at my gym is bigger than me. I still want to feel better than them, so I will tell everyone that I do band and “mobility” work.

Why?

Wow, what a stupid thread. Instead of asking those guys for advice on what they do have (huge upper bodies) you feel the need to ridicule them just because they don’t giuve a shit about legs.

No, you are all far more intelligent and ‘smarter’ because you do mobility work and know who to quote on this website.

I’m betting most of you on this thread are a lot smaller than those ‘half benching half shoulder pressing’ and find solace in the fact that you are all ‘high tech’ with mobility work and squats. Yeah, ok they don’t squat. But howabout instead of acting like these guys are dumbshits you actually try and learn something from people biggher and stronger than you?
Best. Post. I should have read yours before I posted mine.

Good to see not everyone is drinking the Kool Aid.

Overall, this thread is stupid, and populated by little boys. Do you even train?

I train at Gold’s in Venice. I have not seen ONE bodybuilder with small legs there. Not one. I haven’t seen seen this mythical creature with a huge upper body, but small legs.

There are some people who might lack proportion, but all have big legs. Some have crummy calves, but if you have bad insertion, there’s not much you can do with that.

I guess you little boys are training at gyms that have more bodybuilders than Gold’s? If so, where are you training?

Also, why not take a snap shot with you and the guys you’re making fun of. I’m willing to bet that I could, with 100% certainty, pick out who the OP is - and it won’t be the bigger of the two guys, that’s for damned sure.

Instead of playing with rubber bands and doing “mobility work,” maybe you should ask the big boys if you can work in with them. Contrary to popular belief, big guys LIKE helping little guys - so long as you’re willing to work hard.

reading this shit was a waste of fucking time

They live and train on the “Island Where All The People With Huge Upper Bodies And No Legs Live ™”.
It’s right next to the “Island Where All The Cousins, Friends, Friends Of Friends, Brothers, Brother’s Cousins, Dads And Granddads Who Are Bigger And Bench More Than You Without Even Training Live ™”.

Check the map, you can’t miss 'em.

Seriously, those people are hopeless. It’s funny how many guys with “20 inch arms” (very common sight, them 20 inch arms) they know who have sticklegs…

The only bb that I know of who really does have a huge upper body and nothing in the legs is that dude in the wheelchair (vid was posted not long ago). And I think it’s pretty obvious why he doesn’t train legs.

Why do people care if other people train legs or not?

It makes them feel better about their own lack of results all over?

I catch myself dogging on people that are better me in some areas all the time. “Well I deadlift, squat, etc more.” “My squats are well below parallel and theirs are quarter range.” The only people that really deserve any degree of hate/pity are the people that don’t want to know better or don’t want to implement the work they know is proper. Some people like to train upper and some like to train lower and all over…it is no big deal…unless they ridicule u then you fucking own them.

Personally, I really like to train legs and deadlifts. I hate bench and it shows in my lack of upper body development…time to make what I hate a strength.
