I PMed you but I guess I’ll ask here too in case others have similar questions:
What size/weight of tire should one be looking at for the first one that someone wants to flip?
If it helps, my DL is around 420.

i have a 23.5 r 25 i beleieve and its around 600ish, a decent beginners tire but i usally use one thats not quite as worn and is 700…at the same size/model…it really (weight)depends on tread wear
I agree a 500 to 600 would be a good starter if you have room ad even lighter one can be good juts to nail form once you get that you got it, and can use it for longer lighter conditioning and carries etc we had a 350 or so that was great for that.

I would like to know if split jerking the log with the same foot forward all the time creates an imbalance in hip musculature?

HMm well possible but does it make you better at the movement the event if so then thats good. This isnt bbing it dont matter if your not symmetrical as long as your performance goes up its GOOD
If your that worried about it be sure to add in unilateral work on a regular basis

Would the tire depot/outlet/whatever have ideas of weight, or would I need to translate it into some sort of official size?
Brad,
I am planning to begin preparing for a strongman contest to be held in the fall. I will most likely do my strongman event training on the weekends and train in the gym during the week. I have previously competed as a bodybuilder, however I am in the process of restructing my program for strongman.
I have had trouble with the Yoke and want to know what types of weight training exercises would help me with this event.
Also, can you provide some information regarding your set and rep ranges while training for a strongman comp.
Thanks
MD

Dude, yoke walk is all about core. Do lots of heavy abs and lower back stuff like reverse hypers, pull-throughs, good mornings, rack pulls etc.

I really like one arm farmers walk for core work, but yeah anything core related is going to help you there. At times I have even unracked a squat bar with say 100-130% of my max and just practiced breathing. You may end up looking kind of strange at the gym but the yoke will feel a whole lot lighter once you start losing your wind.

Hey Brad,
Welcome back. What your status? You’re my hero, although I never seemed to notice that you compete LWT. I think I saw this in a another thread, but how much did you have to cut for comp?
Anyways… I’ve wondered for awhile why you split your lifts into upper/lower days . Did you try the full body everyday, ie East European/Russian style routines? What were your perceived benefits?
I hate to cross post but I’d hate to send you over to another forum for info.
I’m in GPP phase right now prepping for late summer and fall competitions. (Although I may do Monsters of the Mall in Salina, KS.)

Yeah I think quite a few people have been under the impression that i was a heavy, oh well cant be a bad thing? Usually I would cut about ten pounds to get under 231. Since all of the injuries and potential retirement I have been hovering around 230.
As far as my split is concerned Ive always split upper and lower I think more so because of personal preferance than anything else. I never felt like my intensity level was high enough in the gym when doing both. Event days were of course total body. I also realized that overtraining was a big problem for me so if I were to hit total body I would have probably ended up killing myself…lol
Do me a favor and pm or repost what your up to as far as your split. I wasnt around for a little bit so things may have changed for you over the last month or so.

From my experience they usually need the dimensions, but every once in a while they may know the actual weight.

Probably my biggest weakness is my conditioning. I have never focused on training that before. Before getting into strongman training I was using the Madcow 5x5. My B/S/D is about 280/370/460. My grip is crap right now. I am working on collecting/building equipment for events. Right now I only have a car to push, and a sandbag that goes up to 210lb. I want to compete under 200lbs; right now I weigh in at 205-210 (~13% BF).
Weight loss shouldn’t be an issue, but I want to be clear that I am looking to improve my relative strength, conditioning, and overall athleticism, not to gain much size (though I do probably need some more shoulder size).
I am looking for any suggestions on improving my routine. Also, any suggestions for things I can do in the gym to somewhat simulate events would be excellent.
Thanks a bunch guys,
Alex
edit I realize that the workout is ugly and hard to read, it looks nice when I am in the edit mode, but for some reason it won’t display that way for everyone else. edit
