Wow that does suck moose balls. Food poisoning, not good. I’d say that is a valid excuse to miss a day or two. Hope you’re feeling better. [/quote]
Yep no more nausea etc. Still not back to eating 4-5 meals of meat a day, just getting the appetite back.

Thanks she did yell push it,
she is only 4’11" so lift off and spot is better than not having a spot like normal. I skipped dip for a couple weeks and the shoulder pain went away then of course did dips and pain came back. Old injury.

Okay thoughts on 5/3/1 been doing it for a year now and I love it, however going to change it up a bit. I read a lot of Elite site also and love the power lifting mentality. What I feel works for me and will increase my lifts is changing the 1+ week. Instead of the final 1+ doing as many reps as possible I am going to do just 1 rep and then max out.
Did that on dead this week and did it on squat last week on 3+ week. So what this will do is a max load effort once every 4 weeks. Anybody who reads this have any thoughts. I am driving to hit that 500 dead & squat, and I think doing this will get my CNS better prepared for heavier weights.
Deload week, Mon and Tues life getting in the way.
I will definitely follow since I am real interested to see how changing up your program helps your maximal strength. As I’ve said, I have considered doing 5/3/1 but it just doesn’t seem like it would prepare me to step on the platform and squat/push/pull PRs.
Do you follow the Elite site?
5/3/1 is working well for you. Wendler is coming out with a 5/3/1 for powerlifting soon. Which you most likely have read over on his workout thread.

Yes it is that is why I am not changing it from my base program just the last week before deload. You move big weights and your opinion would be greatly appreciated. I have been reading about Wendler’s powerlifting 5/3/1 waiting on it.

I’m sorry DJHT but I’m not sure what you want my opinion on. Maybe I’m just misreading what you’ve typed.

I guess I am asking advice from the heavy lifters in here if the modification I am doing make sense? I lift in my garage not at a gym and I have no workout partners. So I look for help and advice off here. I know that I will never get to elite status due to this fact in my opinion, but I still have goals. Cant do any meets, with my job and life at this point.
So is a max effort week on the 1+ a good idea?
Is it too much to do the big four in max effort in one week?

I’m not what you would call a heavy lifter but in my opinion maxing all four lifts in one week would be OK, BUT maybe not every month. What I did leading into my last meet was to do a testing week a couple of months out and then do heavy singles/triples following the 3’s or 1’s set on the respective weeks.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Maybe go easy on the assistance exercises that week. Or at the end of your next cycle instead of a deload plan a home lifting meet.
