Strong Little Snapper

x2 Frustration is okay. But this just isn’t true.

Had a really solid conventional DLing session today. Focused on pulling my lats down (rather than shoulders back) and driving my heels through the floor before I initiate the pull. This resulted in easy, clean reps with no hip lift or back rounding. Today’s training was really high volume for me. But I pushed through and was glad for it.

RDL
8/45

Conventional DL
5/115 double overhand
5/135
3/160 mixed
3/3/180 belt

Speed DL
3/3/145

Wide-Stance Squat
5/45
5/95
3/5/120

BB Power Shrug
5/125 (prescribed weight . . . too heavy and one side was doing more work than the other)
2/5/115

I will switch to DBs next week and make these paused shrugs to force my weaker shoulder to work harder.

RDLs
3/5/115

Bentover BB Row
3/5/75

GMs
3/5/85

Lat Pulldown
2/5/100 too heavy

Regarding the sumo advice I got, it was all setup related: where to put my feet, where to put my hands in relation to my feet (I’ve never really understood this), etc. I will give it a try next Monday.

I’m looking forward to Sunday, when I will try on my new Centurion wide-stance suit and take it for a spin if it doesn’t require too much tailoring.

Nice work. Coan-Phillipi, right? Might give that one a whirl one of these cycles.

Good lifting. In fact, given your bodyweight, you’re proportionally stronger than me. Give yourself some credit.

There’s a thread in the PL forum about the (“correct”) direction to push during bench. It’s actually informative, but I wouldn’t suggest posting in the thread though… LOL,

Greer is a unique and interesting name (I like it). Is there a story behind the name choice?

Great to hear your shoulder is feeling good. Personally, I’d rather have great shoulders and a shitty bench, than a great bench and shitty shoulders. But I’m a big feline.

Yep. We’ll see if I can make it through.

I need to develop thicker skin.

Family name. Also one I’ve always loved. She goes by “Evy” as well, my husband’s preferred name for her and a shortened version of her middle name.

I’ll have to think on that. Seriously, my shoulder is feeling amazing lately. I’ve realized I hardly think about it lately. And it can’t get any better than that!

Spent time today packing up true essentials because there was a fire very close to us and the possibility for evacuation could have become a reality. Makes you think about what’s really important. I’m happy (sad?) to admit that my PL gear was amongst my important things. Everything’s burning around here. Interesting time to work for a fire department.

^I like this!

The tiny Snapper’s gymnastics were fun to watch. Wow. All the neuromuscular control she’s developing will really be helpful when she decides to start lifting with her mom. Wonder where she gets those legs? Nice. And your squat form is looking textbook good to me. Glad your shoulder is feeling better Snap.

You’re doing Coan? Much respect for taking that on! Is there a meet in your immediate future? Very impressive lifts indeed.

oh no!! I hope your house stays unscathed!

Best wishes here too. We’ve had drought and fires in Texas, not enough spring rain yet. Makes me feel for those who are being burned out.

Bummer. You’re welcome to some of our Pittsburgh rain, we’ve been absolutely drenched.

The end of July. Although I have considered temporarily defecting from USAPL to NASA so I can try squatting out of a monolift.

Today’s training was pretty half-assed. I had planned to squat raw, then squat in my new suit, and then drive to my other gym and do sumos and other accessory work since it has round plates and is located close to where I had to pick up my son after his hockey practice. But it didn’t work that way.

Squat
5/50
4/85
3/110
2/125
2/3/140

My work sets were solid, although my coach said I was a little deep.

Then it was time to put on my new squat suit. No go. Suit slippers. Baby powder. My coach lifting me up by my straps. No go. I’m carrying around a few extra pounds and that may make the difference. On my frame, it can actually make a big difference because I do not gain weight proportionately. So it’s cutting time to see if I can get the suit to fit by next Sunday when I’ll be in the company of some Titan representatives.

Drove to my other gym to do my sumo pulls and accessory work only to find that it was closed for the holiday. Major disappointment. I will get my accessory work (sumo DLs, pull-thrus, weighted hypers, chins) in tomorrow sometime.

Then I’m taking ten days off. A little va-cay and a visit to USAPL Masters Nationals in Atlanta.

Stay strong.

aw snap, you’re great. while most girls are trying to cut weight in order to fit into their skinny jeans you are trying to cut weight in order to fit into your new squat suit! heh. how frustrating, though. i don’t know anything about these things… but would a little dehydration help? just until you have got yourself stuffed into it.

oh wow!! have fun in atlanta! hope your coach does well–wish him luck for me!!!

Have a great vacation! Cutting is no fun, but you are so motivated by that squat suit that I bet you don’t even feel it.
