Strong Little Snapper

Aint no shame in those numbers little lady . great job.

your STILL a strong little Snapper!!!

I’m just in awe of your DL and Squat numbers Snap. It’s inspiring the hell out of me in fact.

And the fact that you didn’t get completely rattled after taking that first squat all the way down. Feeling no fear on your bench after your shoulder injuries is impressive as well. Sounds like good stuff to me.

You did great… you competed, which is more than alot of people can say!

You got your lifts in and got a total your first meet back from surgery. Thats success no matter how you look at it. Now get some rest and get back to it.

Video highlights from the meet:

Squat opener at 187 lb. (1.7x BW). Fail.

Second attempt at 198 lb. (1.8x BW). Good. Easy.

Third bench attempt at 104.5 lb. (.95% BW). Good. Had more in me.

DL opener a 225.5 lb. (2x BW). Good. Easy.

Second attempt at 242 lb. (2.2x BW). Good.

Third attempt at 253 lb. (2.3x BW). Fail.

I’m feeling really roughed up this morning but mentally some better. I’m just struggling with completing a really hard training cycle and feeling like I have nothing to show for it on the platform. Feel like I’m wasting my coach’s time when I underperform.

I also need to get some gear that fits me properly. PL gear is not designed for petite females with thighs. My gear is tight in all the wrong places and loose where it shouldn’t be. Of course, I’m not exactly built like most powerlifters, but I’m actually quite shocked that there isn’t a line of women’s gear on the market.

No kidding. Getting back into it after a set back like surgery is always a major step.

I’m sorry to say that I spent a good portion of the meet pouting with disappointment and not keeping things in perspective. I want to believe that it’s the journey that matters. But I’m very goal-oriented and was extremely disappointed in my results. Time for a break.
Snap, I know it’s just you and the bar, but you’ve got to know you were impressive out there. Did you hear when the announcer pointed out to everyone that you weighed in at 110 this morning and you were about to deadlift well over 2x bw?

You are a strong little snapper for sure.

Learn to sew baby. You’ll get that shit sorted out pretty quickly; all IPF legal too  I’m not exactly typical dimensions either.

I somehow doubt your coach thinks you let him down when you under perform. If you went out there and fucked around, I could see it. However, you trained hard and not everything came together the way you’d planned. They rarely do.

Every meet I do is mentally tough on me and physically knocks me on my ass for weeks. It’s worse when you didn’t do what you’d hope to do. You went 6 for nine. Aim for 7 next meet.

It must have been a great feeling to get all your bench attempts given it’s your most challenging lift. You’re right about there being a lot more for next time.

Snap! You are incredible! I’m sorry you feel underwhelmed by your results, but YET again I am inspired and thrilled by your performance. You know you have incredible ability which might be part of the disappointment…but there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of at all—you benched like on one’s buisness!!

I hope your back is feeling alright :{ …and i hope after your break you can feel charged for the revenge meet…

The are so many possible responses to the pity party about your objectively fine meet performance.

MRI Results:

“There is a massive tear in the supraspinatus component of the rotator cuff with a defect measuring over 2 cm in diameter. The remnant of supraspinatus tendon is retracted to a point above the superior glenoid.”

The bottom line is that I need surgery. I meet with the surgeon Friday and will find out (among other things) whether the surgery can be done arthroscopically or require the full-blown “open up the whole shoulder” thing because of the size of the tear.

I’m pretty overwhelmed right now and extremely emotional. My hope is that I will be able to someday return to competitive powerlifting.
Seems as if you’ve met that goal. Onwards, my over-achieving, perfectionist little friend.

If I am underweight, usually my Star Wars Underoos… humming the Darth Vader theme…

We are waiting here with anticipation Snapper!
Heh, nice visual.

And sorry you are disappointed by your meet, Snap, 1 thing that hits me is everyone has to congratulate you on coming back from the 1st squat attempt with a strong 2nd, at higher weight. Takes some kinda balls, maybe that’s why your suit doesn’t fit quite right on you.

You said you wrapped too early on the first squat, so you already know what went wrong. And you’re right about the failed deadlift, the video shows the bar a hair too far in front. All easily fixed.

You’re lucky to have a coach helping you. I haven’t, and have spent years trying to figure out why my lifts weren’t getting anywhere.

The videos are great, you’re really concentrating and doing what you trained for. I love how the announcer was cheering you on.

Go hit an all-you-can-eat buffet. You’ve earned it.

It was a fun meet. On to the Next one…

Sounds like a business opportunity to me!

Great work KP. Are you ever satisfied? (In a powerlifting context of course)

Great job, Snapper! I’m really impressed. You done good!

Great post by Ms. Kimba x 2.

In isolation, I think your bench looks really good; with the perspective above, I think your bench is amazing.

Your first squat was FUBAR, the universe was definitely messing with you. I liked the way you flipped the bird at the universe with your 2nd attempt though.

I agree with you on the goals vs. the journey thing. But I will say this -the goals that you achieve, finally, after a long and difficult journey, are the ones that will be the most poignant and memorable. The easily reached goals? not so much.

Snap, I always think when someone goes 9/9, they aren’t reaching for their highest goals…you did have an awesome prep cycle but you definitely didn’t under perform, and I’m sure your coach feels the same way.

X2 on what everyone said about the 1st squat, “flipping the bird at it” and raising your 2nd attempt, that’s confidence and you nailed it!

Your bench looks great, you have a good setup and so much was left on the platform for the next meet.

sometimes, especially with small meets, (I don’t know how large this was) by the time the 3rd pull comes around you can just be so wiped out.

You did GREAT ! Proud of you girl!!

So much awesome feedback. Thanks to all of you for your continued support.

And a special thanks to Kimba for putting me in my place and digging through old logs of mine to find that post from almost a year ago where my only goal was to one day be able to return to the competitive lifting platform. I’ve said it before, but Kimba is a true gem.

Yeah, that second squat of mine was a bit of a risk. I’ve watched meets where people miss their openers and then up the weight for their second attempt. And I’ve thought, “what a dolt,” because it often results in people bombing out. Well, I was that dolt yesterday. I just had no interest in repeating that weight and told my coach so. And luckily it played in my favor.

So in hindsight I did okay. This was only my second geared meet. I equalled my maxes from my first geared meet last spring when I tore my cuff. And because my bench was higher at this meet, I had a higher total.

Regarding my perfectionism, my coach has told me more than once that the day I’m satisfied with my lifting will be the day I hang up my hat in this sport.

And hello to Cooch. You just had to look, didn’t you?
