I’m feeling a little lonely over here. Being the only woman and all since O seems to have curtailed her logging. It’s odd since my weights are a half or a fourth or even less of what you all lift. I’ve always wished that people logged their weights as a percentage of BW. But that’s just my insecurity with being small and not lifting all that much.
Today was my last DLing day until the meet. It was just de-loady range of motion stuff.
Conventional DL
5/115
5/135
4/160
2/3/185
Wanted to move on to wide-stance squats, but the cage was taken. For a long time. In the meantime, I did some lat pulldowns and weighted hypers. By the time the cage was free (more than an hour later), I was hungry and tired. I did this:
Wide-Stance Squat
5/95
5/120
1/140
And decided I needed lunch. I may go back and squat tonight. Such is my craziness. It’s my last time to log some reps before the meet and I think it’s important psychologically for me to do so.

Seriously? I can never log then if you are being all down on YOUR #'s Which to me is fantastic. I realize it isnt saying much form me…Do you really believe the guys havent thought in their head about the amount YOU lift for your size, pft.
Interesting that you find yourself lonely over here. The company seems quite supportive. But it is truth that men lift different weights than most women, and certainly more than the smaller of us. If that bums you out, you know where to go.
Snap - Just watched your bench vid. Ok, we might be in the same weight class but that’s about it. My arms are barely long enough to clear the rack at lock-out on the Bodymaster’s benches at my gym. That part is not so good. I’d say that I’ve got a heavier bone structure too.
You look so young. They do say the fountain of youth is found at the end of a heavily loaded barbell.
As for your squat story, that scares the hell out of me. I’d really like to avoid injury being a 40-year-old lifting virgin and all. Thanks so much for your encouragement.

Tell you what, I’ll start converting my money set to show BW percentage as well.
I’m a neophyte when it comes to lifting, but I do know about the importance of a solid stance, leverage, and the transfer of power. In your bench setup, part deux, where you go from heels up to heels down, I visualize you bolting down to the ground, and I can almost “see” the lines of force radiate to your upper body, ready to lift heavy weight. Unfortunately, although ripped, your back is not meaty, and those beautiful lines of force are wasted because the “platform” is not there to transfer the power. Hope that made some sense…
I’ve been reading, first from Thibaudeau and now Wendler, that the traps and upper back are more important for raw benchers, while the lats are more important for shirted benching. This is due to the bar touching higher on a raw bench, lower on a shirted bench. It’s hard to tell from your pose, but your traps appear more developed than your lats; probably because of your DL prowess. More “lat-centric” back work perhaps?
And it looks like your right shoulder is more developed -that’s the one that was re-built?

I can completely understand that feeling. This is a family, though…of sorts. And, quite honestly, it wouldn’t be the same without you (and Ouroboro). Weight lifted isn’t nearly as important as desire, effort and the interaction. Heck, physically, I am one of the largest folks posting in our neighborhood, but my maxes are warm ups to several of these gents.
Besides, seeing your log helps my wife immensely. It helps show her that a female pursuing this really isn’t so strange. It gives her motivation and helps her see what can be accomplished. She won’t get that from ready the guys’ logs.
I guess that is why I post in the powerful women forum. I mean the powerful women are stronger than me, and I’ll admit I find that fairly intimidating, but I also typically find it inspiring, whereas when I look at what guys are up to I tend to feel demoralized.
I agree with you about the bodyweight percentage thing. I’m not small for a girl (5"7, 63kg) but it does help me to remember that a lot of guys are bigger than me, too, with the weights they are lifting. I get that this is only more true when you are smaller.

I agree with this. I think that most people would. Except possibly for superheavyweights. Especially if they had to work really hard to gain all that weight lol.

Good God, Snapper. This from the lady who’s offered so much encouragement to the rest of us? You’re lifting twice your BW, you hold state records, you’ve done this by the tender young age of 40… and all you can do is piss and moan how hard you’ve got it??
If you’ve been hit by a bout of depression, run, don’t walk, to a doc and get some treatment. If not, chalk it up to low blood sugar and get some dinner.
EDIT: I almost forgot, you got a job during a recession and you have healthy children. Count your blessings.
Oh Snap, I hope you are just having a moment. I follow your log daily and have learned much from you already. I don’t think this forum would be nearly as good without you here. I’m working on my wife to start posting here. We’ll work on getting you some more company. In the mean time, stay focused on your meet and good luck.

Gee, Snap, no need to feel that way. Just read my log every once in a while, and you can think, “Well, at least I’m stronger than that fat, desk-jockey!” (and no percentages needed neither).
I agree with Strick. This is more of a family, and you are very much a part of it. Please keep posting. I enjoy following your efforts. Good luck in the meet!

I’m over my moment. Just the rantings of temporary lunacy. I think many of us who are drawn to this sport are prone to extremes in some form.
So I’m going through my typical pre-meet worrying about losing strength if I taper off much (read: lunacy). As such, I went into the gym this afternoon and did the following:
Cuff Stuff
Flat Bench
Skwatz . . . Threw these in since I bailed on them yesterday
5/45
5/95
5/115
2/3/135
1/140
1/145
2/8/95 extra super duper wide stance
I find that I have somehow found a way to go too deep with the wide stance when I’m raw. Argy. So I widened my stance even more. Soon I’ll be in the splits when I start.
Lats . . . Because Punnyguy says I should
More Lats . . . Because Punnyguy says I should
Triceps
No more lifting until Tuesday, when I will work up to my squat opener and first/second attempt in bench. That will be it until showtime.
Oh, and thanks for detailed explanation part deux, Punnyguy. I believe my traps look well developed because I used to do Oly C&J in large numbers in the past.
