Strong is Beautiful

When I DL, I wear my belt (lever) pretty tight. I don’t wear it unless I’ve got a pretty heavy weight (three or fewer reps usually). Have you tried squatting in it? I have never squatted in my tapered one. I’ll have to give that a go.

Snapper, I haven’t tried squatting in the belt yet. Today’s squat weight was so low, it didn’t seem right to use a belt for it.

Those Dls looked pretty good to me. You can def see how the belt will keep your back supported, so that’s great. As for the hips, I totally understand, that’s where my form breaks down too. But i think as you get used to the belt that issue will fix itself. Also great job on not-resetting!

Also, I hate obsessing about this, but woman, your arms look incredible! Either you’ve leaned out a tad or you put on some muscle there. But they look freaking HOT!

95% on the shoulder is good! Keep resting/rehabbing, you should be perfect by next week!

I’m with snap on the belt. I only use it for DL when the weight gets heavy for me. Anything more than a couple reps and its just a pain in the ass. And I like the belt tighter for squats than DLs, but, frankly, I am not that picky about tightness. My girth fluctuates and if it feels too tight that particular day i’ll just DL with belt unbuckled (lever belt). With squats, I make sure its always buckled on my heaviest sets.

Maschy, you can make approving comments about my arms ANY TIME YOU LIKE. My weight is the same, my clothes fit the same, and to my knowledge I haven’t been either getting leaner or gaining muscle. Maintenance is my goal looks-wise, although I acknowledge the possibility of getting incrementally leaner over time. Strength improvement is my real goal. And that is improving incrementally. If I ate more I’ll bet I could get stronger faster. But vanity prevails.

Jack, thanks for stopping by. Every new toy I add to my lifting takes a certain amount of getting used to it.

Nowhere near my PR of 10 on the money set, but I was extremely happy that my left shoulder felt 100% fine on this lift. YAY! I haven’t MPd since 6/7/10 and I’m happy to be back.

Sunday work was very impressive and doing milies in the bedroom is dedication incarnate.

I thought your deads looked easy too. Keep playing around with the belt. Everyone has different preferences. I like it a bit tighter as I get heavier but not so tight I can’t get a breath. I also like to pull mine down at the front particularly when I’m deadlifting. Before I pull, the last thing I usually do is jack it down at the front. You’ll work out what is best for you.

I don’t know if your hips were rising fast either. You just have a higher set up. I do the same thing because my legs are long in relation to my body. If I start lower, it puts me in a disadvantaged position - when I pull raw.

Joe, “milies in the bedroom” sounds like a title of one of those risque romance novels. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

ouroboro, we have a similar body type: legs, legs, and LEGS. I feel like I’m all legs when I’m pulling. If I start my setup lower, then my hips really come up first and mess me up more. I try to start just low enough so that I can grab the bar with my long arms, but not lower. I really suck at pulling the bar back into my body, though. This deficit shows up more at heavier weights.

I think your DL form has improved SO MUCH from your early vids. Go back and watch if you need proof!

Holy crap! I just went to the first few pages of your first log to check out the DL vids (yes I have time on my hands) and you have improved immensely!!! Incredible. And congrats! That is quite the accomplishment. And I will say, there was a lot of talk about tits back then - glad to see nothings changed.

Nice work on the MPs and hooray for the shoulder.

hmmmm-i might get stoned by the crowd if i mention that one of the reasons i’ve hesitated on posting DL videos is because of vanity…

and definitely stop focusing on what is “wrong” in your videos woman! you’ve done fantastic things over the last year and are very inspiring. :slight_smile:

I think thats normal, its human nature to see our imperfections. I can objectively say that your DL form is getting pretty damn good.

I’d kill to be able to keep that low back arch like you do. My low back wants to round like a fat kid wants cake.

You know that German Chocolate cake isn’t really German? I googled it b/c I was confused how a German cake could have coconut on it (I’m nerdy like that). Apparently, the originator of the cake used German’s chocolate! So it was German’s Chocolate cake and we’ve just shortened it to German Chocolate.
