Strong is Beautiful

I like purple, turquoise or silver… sorry I am not much help! I am super indecisive!

I almost got the red lever one, but they were totally sold out of that color when I ordered, so I switched to boring black. Black goes with everything though!

Purple! But I do like the green too. It really depends what colours your gym gear/shoes are, though.

Phew, lots to catch up on in here! I love stopping in to your log Kimba, there’s always so much interesting and useful discussion - I’m thinking about buying some bands for deadlifting myself.

That trx stuff you did is super impressive - 40 inverted rows is crazy!

All that correctional stuff you have to do reminds me of rehab for my knee - By the end of it I must have had 10 or so exercises to do, two to three times daily! I’m sure it’ll be worth it in the end though, to address the imbalances you’ve discovered.

Oh, I vote for forest green, I think it’ll suit you.

If it was for me I’d get the red. But if my choice was between purple and green I’d go with green.

I’m voting green, while acknowledging that purple isnt EXACTLY a lemming choice, unless all of you show up at the same meet with the same belts.

also, you kick ass at life as usual, carry on.

Wish we lived closer, Kimba. You could borrow my purple belt and try it for awhile . . .

I’d love that! Alas. Apparently I will have to buy in order to try.

Color still undecided…

I’m also a huge fan of red as well (especially shoes!) - like Snap said, total power color.

But purple is regal, also holds power - like saying, “I am kimba. you wouldn’t dare tangle with me”. I say purple. Its so vibrant, it calls to me

Maschy, my nickname around my house is “The Queen”, so maybe purple is the right call.

Tonight’s training I would call “medium”. Not great, not awful. But workmanlike.

5/3/1 - Wave 6, Week 1 - Sumo Deadlift Day

Sumo Deadlift
From risers using 10# plates:
85# 1 x 5 warmup
105# 1 x 3 warmup
115# 1 x 5 <–working set, felt heavy, started to feel impending doom, took a bathroom break

From floor:
135# 1 x 5 <–working set, felt better
148.5# 1 x 5 <–money set, started losing my back arch on the 5th rep and called it.

From floor with bands:
135# 3 x 3

Fatigue set in quickly tonight. First rep of any set felt great, but hard set in soon thereafter. I LOVE my bands. The resistance at the top is very cool. I don’t yet pull fast or explosively off the floor, but I’m optimistic this will help me.

Kroc rows
40# 2 x 10, 1 x 10(R) 8(L)

My left arm was way weaker tonight than my right.

Then home for a dinner of scallops pan fried in butter and a big salad. Appetizer of guac and a few tortilla chips.

dinner sounds DEE-licious. just saying hi kimba, there’s lots for me to read here. carry on, Queen!

Impending doom cracked me up, you got your reps and thats all that matters.

Mmmm scallops! Good job getting through your workout, even if it felt tough.

x2

Those kroc rows are great, too!

If your left arm is weaker, it might be a good idea to start with that arm, then match the reps on your right side so that the imbalance doesn’t get any worse.

^^^^^ Good point Blue!

Man, ALOT to catch up on. Great looking deads Kimba! Congrats on your PR and ‘whipping’ your program’s ass the other day! (the one you didn’t feel so good)

About the belt, call me old fashioned but I vote LEATHER! Your belt isn’t supposed to be ‘pretty.’ It’s a tool. You wouldn’t want a pretty hammer to break a 200# rock would you? You’d want big, ol’ UGLY sledge right. The same goes for your belt, your straps, etc. Get something sturdy and effective rather than something that’s gonna wear out in a few months. It may take a while to break a leather belt in, but it’s worth it. I’ve been lifting with mine since 1993 or so AND it came to me second hand from a friend!

That is a great idea. Maybe I should also do an extra set on the weaker side.

On the general theme of “strength imbalances suck”, my weak left leg and hip are continuing to make my squat sad.

5/3/1 - Wave 6, Week 1, Squat and Bench Day

Four of my rehab exercises. FYI, sumo squat holds and side lunge holds are humbling in the extreme. Try it and tell me different. Making it to 30 secs. was hurtful.

Bar 1 x 5 warmup
71.5# 1 x 5 <–knees fine
82.5# 1 x 5 <–knees fine
93.5# 1 x 5 <–money set, I felt my knees start to wiggle on the last rep and called it.

I am still fighting pulling to the right, especially as I come out of the hole. Obviously I will not be able to deal with the strength imbalance problem by continuing to squat, so I thought I would move on to some unilateral stuff.

Barefoot Bulgarian split squats with strict knee tracking

BW 2 x 15 each side <–having huge troubles with balance today.
5 lb. dumbbells 1 x 15 <–strangely, balance was easier

Bench Press
Bar 1 x 5
52# 1 x 5 <–working
60# 1 x 5 <–working
68# 1 x 16 <–money set, rep PR (never done this weight before - 65# rep PR was 15, 70# rep PR was 13, so this made me happy.

Dips
12.5 lbs on dip belt 1 x 10, 1 x 5

And then I was both done, and out of time.

Yesterdays ride at 2.5 hours and 1600 feet of climbing made the leg work today difficult.

Hey CDQ! Those colored belts are leather. I recognize the need for a good, quality tool. But when they’ve gone and made them in all those purty colors, a girl can’t be faulted for seeking beauty.

When I do 1 arm/leg anything’s I always start with my left.

sorry, I wanted to feel included, since R. stole the words outta my mouth

I have the weak left arm also and always start with the left. Prior trainer advised me to always do the max the left can do and never give the right heavier weights or more reps. Said it would make the imbalance worse. This week I moved from 27.5 to 30 lbs on my DB presses and got through them all on the left so it must be working!

Woohoo! for the 16 reps on your bench

and YAY! for bike riding, 1600 feet is awesome.
