Nice job on the deads! And your dips are really impressive.
proud of you!!
I need to step it up…
Congrats on the DL PR, you’ll be pulling 200 soon enough.
Good job on the DLs! Your form looks pretty damn good. Yeah, that 5/3/1 definitely moves you along at a slow pace. But that’s the whole point of it, right?
Rachelle, thanks for the sweetness. My dips are coming back. I still feel weak on them, but things are definitely going in the right direction!
Betty, we know we BOTH can do more and better. Hanging around together will only improve us both.
Joe, when that 200 day comes I will be SO HAPPY. Such a lift would have been unimaginable to me a year ago. Now its not a question of IF but WHEN.
Thanks Snap! I like 5/3/1 for the slow pace. It gives me real confidence when I go up to the bar that I can actually hit PRs during many trainings. For me, there is no prize. The process is the point.

x2 - my dips are pathetic…
200 will b yours in no time. Solid training here as always, kimba! Your dips were always awesome, glad you are back at 'em!
Thanks George and T! I really appreciate the encouragement.
Today there was supposed to be a bicycle ride, but doing the taxes shot the whole damn day. After that pain, some Tabata seemed fitting. I did the bodyweight tabata in this article:
20 secs. work/10 sec. rest for 8 rounds.
Then a nice hot bubble bath. And now some foam rolling and stretching.
Squats tomorrow.
jealous of your bubble bath.
i’ll be right there.
My night has just improved.

Tabata is killer.
yesterday’s squats are killing me today. I should do the bubble bath and foam rolling thing…
Tabata really does kick your arse. Hope you got your taxes done OK. Fortunately you only have to do that in the UK if you’re self employed.
Cal, I AM self-employed. So apparently that screws me in two countries. ![]()
Sunday afternoon training wasn’t bad. Later in the day meant more of a chance to eat beforehand, which did me good.
5/3/1 Wave 4, Week 2 – Squat and MP Day
Squats (3 risers/step)
Bar 1 x 10 warmup
65# 1 x 5 warmup
90# 1 x 3 working
105# 1 x 3 working
120# 1 x 3 <–money set, was ugly with knee cave
85# 3 x 10
I was happy to get the reps on the money set. Form was too ugly to legitimately go for more. Still, a better squat day than last week.
Military Press
Bar 1 x 3 working
55# 1 x 3 working
60# 1 x 3 <–money set, happy to get the reps
Bar 2 x 10, 1 x 7 <–failed on 8
I do better on MPs when I move them to a separate day, which my schedule this week doesn’t allow. Oh well.
Back Raises
27.5# dumbbell behind head 3 x 10 ← PR +2.5 lbs.
Kroc Rows
40# 3 x 10
Triceps Pushdowns with V-handle
70# 2 x 10 <–just a filler while waiting for the husband to finish up
Today was a banner day for commentary on Kimba: freak in the weight room. After my first set of back raises, a dude gave me the “I’m kind of scared of you”. Alrighty then.
Then while resting between Kroc Row sets, some other dude who must’ve weighed at least twice my weight (and was rowing the 55s) said “You need to pick a lighter weight cause you’re making me look bad.” No gifts, big dude.

Hahaha! I love those comments.
The other day, I was doing bent-over rows on a bench, and took a water break between sets. When I returned, one of the gym’s resident hotties was about to take up residence on the bench. Saw me coming, and backed off. Said he was scared I was gonna beat him up. Ha!
Nice job on the squats, despite the knee cave. And nice hypers. I’m gonna have to try some of those weighted like you.
Be scared of Kimba. Be very scared.
We need to get you a T-shirt that says that.

Yes!!
Oh you should have given those guys hell.
Nice lifting, I don’t think I could do Milies and Squats on teh same day I feel like I’m going to die at teh end of just about every training day already.
Just catching up on all the awesomeness!!
You’re deads are progressing swimmingly! Excellent stuff Kimba. You seriously are so close to pulling 200lb. I’m so excited for you, that’s like DL’ing a kimba. Incredible.
Good stuff on the squats too and the MP - 60 is a big deal if you ask me.
AND you know I love tabata, works up a sweat like nobodies biz.
Your training always rocks - great work.
Further thoughts on the commentary…I really don’t think the guys that comment to me know how to react to what they are seeing: a small-ish woman lifting weight that they’ve likely never seen a women lift. So, they say something weird, when what they really mean to say is “wow, that was good lifting”.
So, the first thing about this scenario that mystifies me, is if guys don’t know what to say and aren’t trying to pick me up, then why comment? If I saw something in the weight room that surprised me and I didn’t really know how to react to it, I would probably just covertly watch it and make whatever comments I wanted to, TO MYSELF.
The second thing that mystifies me is why a guy if he really means “hey, good job”, says something way, way lamer. I hear and see all the time, dudes saying to each other variations of “nice lift” in a “we’re all in the same fraternity” sort of way. Yet, out of all the commentary I get (and I get quite a bit) a straightforward and supportive comment is rare.
If I really thought that one of these dudes was dissing me, I would give them hell. But my sense is that the poor bastards are just kind of confused by me.
Speaking of supportive comments, thanks Rachelle, Snapper, Joe and Maschy! What I don’t get in real life, is sure nice to read here.
^^^^
it’s because they’re weak and intimidated by you! Oh, nice work on your deads!! And, unfortunately, you’ll have to deal with that crap ALOT! It never ceases to amaze me…have some photos handy of some powerful women, and ask those same guys if they find them attractive. Chances are, they won’t. I’ve never understood…guys say things to me like,“She doesn’t look feminine with all those muscles.” Wait, because you think she can lift more than you, she’d not feminine?!? AAARRRRGGGGHH
If anything,I would think that should provide those guys with the motivation to get their asses to doing something. It doesn’t have to be a competitive DL or squat, but something. Sheesh
\sorry 'bout the rant/pseudo-hijack
