It’s just how it is. On Thursday I struggled through a slow 5-miler, and today I cruised through 7 miles. Lots of variables to consider, but it’s smart to just accept some days are going to require adjusting the weights, exercise selection, speed, distance, etc… Just get in what you can can keep coming back.
Was planning to go on a run tonight however scrapped the idea. The running had really sapped the leg strength as well as I haven’t fully acclimatised to it. I forgot how much running take out the recovery account.
Need to get the R&R in and give the wife some company as well my man
Also got some Japanese gin which is a staggering 43%
In my brief forays into running, I’m finding the same. And ya know, lifting is the same. You have some days where the warm-ups fly up, and some where it feels like it’s going to bury you. I imagine running is unique in that you just do it for so much longer that you feel how much it sucks more.
Like, if you’re having a “bad deadlift day”, you pull your topset of deadlifts and for 8 seconds you think “MAAAAAAN this sucks”. And then it’s over and you go do some lats and abs and go home.
Meanwhile, you hit the first 50 feet of your 8 miler and go “Oh this is gonna be a bad day”, then you get 7 miles and 5000+ feet more of that feeling.
I find it’s even more noticeable with running. Some days I have it, and some I don’t and it’s really apparent on a 5-7 mile run. I can will myself through a lifter session easier (maybe because the sets are shorter and breaks are longer) to hit my numbers for the day. Maybe PRs aren’t in the stars for that day, but after a warm up I can generally get at least a punch-the-clock strength session in. But, as you say, some times the first couple hundred yards of a run sucks, and it takes all I’ve got to just to slog through those remaining miles.
I’m not a runner. Legs are too wee and I can’t get that fucking runners stride.
When I read about folk just busting out a 5k run and getting a sub 25 min time, my heart sinks a little.
I was breathing hard out of every hole in my body there man. Legs are killing me from the heavy foot technique I seem to employ during my runs
Not to worry however as the runners high is like drugs. Inject that shit into my veins.
Have had the shiny shit start to make its presence felt again.
I’m sticking with TB however I’m starting to play about with the idea of implementing the OMS (Operator/Mass/Specificity) blocks into my programming, after June 1.
Need to get the calorie counting process out of my life. That’s the last stress inducer. Been trying to minimise fat gain during this bulk however still feel like some anorexic pussy in the kitchen, scrambling about scanning barcodes.
Simplifying the training has been a god send in terms of outcomes. If I can bring that into the nutrition world then hopefully it makes a dent and exorcises my training demons.
This might not be for everyone but I am 100% for the way Jon Andersen has outlined how to eat. It’s worked great for me these past 12 weeks and I plan on continuing to use it for the near future. Haven’t counted a calorie, tracked macros or anything of the sort. Might want to take a look at it and see if it’s something you’d be willing to try?
