Strikeforce HW Grand Prix: If This Happens

If you are correct and none of us know, that is good for Penn. But if you recall they almost always hype Penn with something like “this time BJ is really training the cardio.” So who knows, but like I said if you are correct that will help him greatly.

I think you’re right. But since when doesn’t a mastery of basics help you win? He throws them exceptionally well and with his longer reach and taller stature he could out strike Penn.

Not everyone if I recall GSP took him down from a clinch. That was after he wore him out of course.

I agree he is slower than Edgar, but not much slower than GSP. And I don’t think it’s the speed that will win Fitch the fight anyway.

Huges wishes he was as good as Fitch. With that said they have similarities. But if I recall correctly Hughes gave penn a tremendous beating in their second fight. Do you think Penn is better than he was 3 or 4 years ago? I think Penn is on the other side of his career. And if he didn’t defeat Hughes so spectacularly he may have retired. Either way that victory over Hughes didn’t prove much to me. I would rather have seen Penn go the distance and out gut Hughes because that’s the only way he beats Fitch. And frankly I don’t see him lasting- But I have seen him quit before without tapping, but just going through the motions when he knows he’s lost the fight.

That means that Fitch is closer to the weight limit than he has been for other fights. Those of us who have cut weight for wrestling, or any other combat sport know that sucking a great deal of weight right before a fight does not help. This is a plus for Fitch.

If you say Fitch is like Hughes and Hughes owned Penn in fight 2, and Fitch is well known of L&P then I’d say once again that Fitch has the advantage.
BJ’s jab and takedown defense will win him this fight
It’s the only way he wins if he’s going to win. But as I said I think Fitch’s longer arms and solid basic boxing will nullify Penn’s superior boxing (if it is superior). As for his takedown defense it is great no question, but how great is it after 7 or 8 minutes of fighting?

You have some good points but I’ll stick with Fitch.

Damn, I really thought the point had been made. BJ was dominating Hughes in the second fight until he broke his rib which killed his cardio, this has been proven by the medical report.
And lol at Fitch out striking BJ. if that happens I will be very unhappy for the rest of the day then move on with my life.

Win or loose Give baby jay some credit
fought all over the map

Hughes 3 was also about Hughes’ inability to box…at all. That part of his game has never really improved.

I don’t give BJ any credit for getting this fight. His last 2 fights at welterweight were an absolute beat down and the other was a knockout of a mid tier welterweight with a big name(at best that’s where Hughes is at this point). Based on those performances he gets a title eliminator fight. He was given the fight due to his drawing power as much as anything else. Which is not necessarily bad but it’s not something I give him huge credit for.

But Hughes broke his rib. And when someone breaks your rib they tend to win the fight. Point being Hughes was the better man that particular day. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s by a punch to the ribs, or a punch to the chin. Hughes beat him solidly. Is Penn a better fighter now than he was then? Nope.

And one more thing about Penn. He lost 9 out of 10 rounds to Frank Edgar. Now you Penn lovers can say “well he had a style that BJ couldn’t handle.” Fair enough, but when I read posts about Penn’s great striking I think of The Edgar fights and laugh. Penn looked like a rank amature on his feet in those two fights. And the point has already been made that Fitch does many of the same things right that GSP does. And we all know how GSP owned Penn in their most recent fight. It wasn’t even close. Is Penn a better fighter now than he was then? Nope.

I would but thats what all you people are for.

my little spy’s and the google machine told me Hughes went out to train and help with
penn and play his Fitch
not a such a badk idea- Hughes when smart has similar clinch work
and he is strong like bull.

I think Penn Hughes 3 was more about Matt’s chin, and BJ being angry.
yet Penn has power to spare.
Penn is the better striker
Penn has supreme TDD
and a ridicules chin.

BJ is a handful for anyone- unless you can either outclass or break him.
GSP did both Fitch might do it but who would care its win win for Penn.

Win or loose Give baby jay some credit
fought all over the map
go watch fat baby jay fight machida- Fitch isn’ going to hit him anything like that.

but Fitch is likley to grind out some boring fight.

I would like you to declare the winner of Penn/Fitch, if you are so inclined.

no fucking way bj lost more than two or three rounds in the first edgar fight

and a rib INJURY in no way means hughes was a better fighter

was mark coleman better than shogun, NO!!!
