high bar. Should I try low bar?
My goal is to get bigger of course, but I don’t want to gain so much fat with further bulking. Actually never went on cut, maybe I still shouldn’t… Implementing abs routine should grow my abs, so it won’t look so bad even with fat?
I dont think abs can really grow, no. Maybe a bit if they are undertrained, but abs are made in kitchen. But you cant grow AND have abs. It works only for some people with specific genetics. You need to get chubby to get big.
I’d try a whole bunch of stuff, but I ask the question because a good morning style squat is common in the low bar and not a concern.
You’re young. Giving up this early is silly. Try a bunch of stuff.
This might help
Maybe you are too upright on the descent?
I’ve found that leaning a bit more forward / over at the start of the squat helped keep my position when I came out of the bottom.
For the record, I am not great at squats, but I think I know a thing or two about them.
He gets mocked a lot, and for good reason, but the Mark Rippatoe style squat works fairly well for me (IMO his error is thinking everyone should squat the same). This is the position he recommends for going into the bottom of the squat:
It makes my groin feel like its going to rip, but I am stronger in this position.
I’ll try my best, thanks for useful source and advice. Any further comments on physique would be helpful.
I’ll just triple down on @Andrewgen_Receptors’s advice of pick a program and run it. There’s a billion on this site. I’d pick multiple, that are different, and see what works for you. In fact, let me go ahead and take you into next summer; do these in the order listed:
That takes you to about May 2023. Spend 6 weeks trimming down from there and spend the summer impressing girls on the beach; bonus, you can now legally buy them a beer!
woah… thanks for taking time and posting such good links.
Btw dont know in which country you are if it’s legal to buy beer at the age of 21, but not 18
Jokes aside, what do you guys think about push/pull/legs, or should I stick to those programs mentioned above? Also, what about diet? Keeping it clean or going with junk, when it comes to my physique
You’ve already gotten answers to these questions.
Thanks for advice and helpful answers, will keep here updated with progress. Cheers
Just think what a monster you’ll be if you actually follow that roadmap!
I’m tempted to explain my rationale in choosing those specific programs in that specific order, to prove to everyone how smart I am, but I actually think that would be detrimental. There’s huge value in just doing.
As the most impressive of us said:
But, I simply can’t help myself, this
can’t be a serious question. You know better.
I truly hope you follow that campaign plan. I’d love to see you create a log, tag us, knock these out for the next ~40 weeks, and be the living answer for the next 20-year-old that has a question!
My 0.02c for what its worth:
Do less or think less of this:
Fix this:
Do more of this:
Seriously though. You have a great opportunity to change your mindset about training in general and make some excellent progress. If It was me I would pick a performance based program with a simple progression method. I would chose 531 but there are many other good ones, some already mentioned above. Stop thinking about bulking and cutting and skinny fat…etc.etc. Start focusing on cleaning up your diet (you are an adult now after all), eating to fuel your workouts and focus on getting stronger. Learn to do the big lifts properly, train hard and consistently and over time you will grow both strong and end up with the physique you want. Just don’t over complicate things and remember this takes time and effort… a lot of it.
I love the poems about squats being the answer to growing legs when all else fails that you post on threads like this.
