With the photos of the face, it would be hard not to include enough of the neck to make it possible to judge muscularity, so I think that would play a part although certainly not the whole picture.

Question:
Why does benching have such an importance in fighting?
It doesn’t. Alot of fighters don’t bench press at all.
I’d rather be punched by the guy who benches alot but doesn’t squat and do ab work, because that’s where your power comes from.
Who said anything about punching? In a fight were there is no rules you would most likely be grappling (assuming no weapons), your not trying to score points, you would be trying to kill or cause your opponent to submit.
Strength favors this type of fighting.
Very few people are actually trained to kill, so strength would be a major factor

Because the closest correlation to benching is punching.
Everyone was talking about this guy benching that and what if that guy benched this, etc…
He means alot of us might know how to fight, but not know/have the guts to kill someone.
So for some reason strength is important…I dunno.

Wrong. You have no idea what that fight would be like. The old line about 90 percent of fights going to the ground is a myth.
Not to mention, you can’t just say, “Kill or submit”. The two are not in the same sentence in regards to a real fight.

Jesus you’re all over the place here. I don’t even know what this means.
I agree we don’t really know what the fight would look like and it would be different in every case.
Most of the fights I’ve seen outside of competition however start with the guys trying to punch each other and then when one realises he’s getting the raw end, he’ll try and grab the guy and choke or take them to the ground.
Some of this is culural but its certainly not a myth that most fights go to the ground. The only real exceptions are when one guy gives in or runs or is knocked out.
I agree that killing and causing yor opponent to submit are totally different. Wat I’m saying is that you would be trying to do one or the other, not trying to win points buy hitting them in the right spot.
The point I was trying to make when saying that few people are trained to kill is that most fighting systems (like boxing) don’t have alot of carry over because in boxing your not trying to kill someone. some people on here where talking about a small guy who is skilled and trained could beat a bigger guy.

Who wins? Both times.
The smaller guy.
Fighting is not just about size, but also about heart.
I don’t disagree with your statement that fighting is not all about size but this isn’t a good example to proove your point. This fight was obviously regulated (see the ref come in when the smaller guy got a hold on the big guy) having no wrestling takes away the stronger guys advantage to a degree.

Nice. Lots of big names in that one.

Ok first of all the faster you can punch the greater the impact, so again strength (in weight room terms)does not matter.
HA!
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Yes, a really fast punching 120lbs midget will be able to do more damage than the slower punch of George Foreman in his prime.
Sure. You keep telling yourself that. LOL!
I swear shit like this must allow some of you smaller guys to sleep better at night…until you actually have to fight someone who can throw a punch and outweighs you by 100lbs.
I second X’s laugh!
Force = mass x acceleration. So if you have a lot of mass you only need a moderately amount of speed to produce a massive amount of force. I would rather get hit by a plastic wiffle ball at 30 mph than a baseball. Common sense.
In any case I grew up learning wrestling and marital arts from a young age (5). I have studied Gracie Jui Jitsu since the early 90’s when it first started making the the rounds. I have also been in way too many fights, stabbed twice and sliced 3 times.
Now I am a relatively little guy (185 at 5"9") but from all that senseless fighting I learned three things:
-
Don’t fight unless you absolutely have to.
-
Don’t fight somebody bigger than you without a weapon.
-
Don’t even fight somebody your size without a weapon – because they still will probably hurt you pretty bad.
These little guys that say size or strength doesn’t matter need a little beat down to show them just how mistaken they are.
It also seems like he also didn’t go to class when they taught the concept of momentum and impulse. People seem to forget that if someone weighs more than you, their arm (the device used to punch) will probably weigh more than their arm. Given the same constant speed, would you rather be hit by a bus or a smart car?

I am totally going to watch that. It’s kind of like Never Back Down, only it doesn’t suck.
