I wanted to ask about the use of anabolic steroids in improving performance in the clean and jerk and snatch. I compete strictly on an amateur level as I started way too late in life to have any chance of making it big but nevertheless I still very much enjoy the sport and wish to go beyond my peak.
The term “anabolic” is usually something I try to avoid while training due to fear of being thrust into a more competitive weight category though I am not worried about a little hypertrophy. My question pertains more to the strength/power gains. Do steroids actually improve the firing rate of muscle fibers and the number of muscle fibers recruited per motor unit?
Has anyone experienced improvements in the olympic lifts as a result of cyclical steroid use?
My plan is to get my feet a little wet so I have a few questions.
What would be considered a very light cycle for beginners? Even if the gains are extremely modest I’d at least like to try this route first.
Will a light cycle result in permanent erectile dysfunction and/or infertility?
Will it be possible for my natural testosterone levels to return back to normal after a cycle?
Is permanent liver damage and heart disease a strong likelihood in a first time user following the beginning and cessation after one light cycle?
Do you think it would be possible to gain some minimum results with that cycle except just 250 mg of Test E a week? I ask because some of the sources I have found are pretty damn expensive. I can wait and save up more if need be but if results, even small results can be gained with a very light cycle then I think it’s worth trying.
I know for a fact that fellow competitors use it and I feel that if I’m going to remain competitive then I at least need to experiment with them.
Alright, I’ll admit I’m kind of a wuss. I’m 29 and have been lifting for about 6 years but have only been doing the olympic lifts for about 1 year. I know I could probably lift more with practice but damn the temptation with steroids is pretty overwhelming.
You really don’t need to do steroids. I can CnJ and snatch your weights through muscling them up and i’ve maybe practiced the OL about 10 times in my life. Just get stronger and your lifts will go up.

This really bugs me. First of all, you’re absolutely not ready. You’re at the stage where coaching will do far more good than anything you’re going to pump into your glute or whatever.
Second, while you haven’t said it directly, USAW is a tested federation. I am not so naive as to believe folks in USAW aren’t using, but I feel it’s dishonest to set out to do it. Are you certain the people you’re seeing that you believe are using gear are actually doing so? There are a couple of guys I lift with who I was almost certain were using. One day I overheard them talking about this mysterious thing called TRT and that they were interested in “some day, maybe, running a small cycle.”
You may be mistaking talent, genetics, proper coaching, and more time under a barbell for use of performance enhancing drugs. It wouldn’t be the first time, that’s for sure.
Powerlifter cycle of choice oxandrolone up to 10-25mg a day and test suspension or propionate 50-100mg every second day. Add good pct and test levels should be fine. Try to lift for a year or more now before considering a cycle. Not ready for it yet.
