Steroids and Muscle Memory

I asked CT this question in his locker room but he is a busy man and hasn’t got round to answering it.

I used steroids a few years ago and bulked up nicely. I think it’s fair to say that I was nowhere near my genetic limit.

After a break I want to get back in to bodybuilding but do not want to use steroids again. I would like to get back to my former size.

Will I be able to regain the size I had previously gained using steroids as quickly as if I had not used steroids to build that size in the first place? Or put another way, as I have not reached my genetic limit will muscle memory work to allow me to regain the size quickly despite the fact that it was built using steroids?

Thanks

Interesting question. In the years since you geared it did you ever exceed the size you had back then? I would rather doubt you could.

Even if you gear up before you reach your genetic limit using the gear will potentially bump you past your genetic limits.
Having said all that, very few people actually approach their genetic limit.

Yeah muscle memory will have a big role in you being able to put on muscle much quicker even with prior use of steroids, unless your test levels haven’t returned to normal. Which sounds unlikely in your case.

How long have you been out of the gym? I have found the longer I lay off, the loinger it takes me to get back the muscle I once had.

As for your question about whether you will be able to get as big, in my experience I would say yes. I juiced a long time ago and went beyond my potential. I have found i am able to get back to that level off the gear using strict diet, training, rest, and supplements.

Thanks for the input. It is about 9 weeks since I asked the question. I have been training hard and have regained a lot of the size that I had previously without the use of steroids… and no going off cycle losses to contend with.

It is virtually certain that I could not have gained this much size had it not been for the effects of muscle memory. I am not back to where I was yet but should be reasonably soon.

Yea, if you look at many newbs that have been training 9 weeks their gains are negligible. I imagine gains are much better than someone that never had that size before.

Keep at it man. With diet, training and a decent supplement regimen you will get to where you were quickly.

Just curious, do you guys consider a year off a long time? If you had to guess, how many months do you think it would take to come back from a year off if you had been working out pretty regularly for 5 years prior? Guess I’m wondering how long muscle memory stays a very potent aid to getting back.

Tough question without considering age.

Well, this largely depends on the amount of atrophy that has occurred. In my experience, total atrophy and 3 years off can be brought back within 6-8-10 months depending on the person. Maybe even a year. I have found a big part of gaining muscle back is knowing what works for you to make muscle in the first place.

If you take a year off and lose say about 1/2 of what you made, I am sure you could get that back within 6 months.

All of this, of course, is speculation not backed by anything other than my personal experience.

Good points…

I took three years off…new career, marriage, new home, baby, nuff said.

Anyway to my point. I returned back to gym this past January, and I think your on point with the timing. Although I am seeing great results, as does my bride. The finished product I would guess is another 3 months away.

I was on gear for years…and got up to 250-260 pounds. I’m currently at 225. I’ve been off for a long time, and I’ve never been able to get to that size or hardness. I could get to that weight, but I’m sure my waist would blow up to 46".

So to answer your question, without some type of T help, I doubt you’ll get to your roid size. Of course that would depend on how much you were taking and for how long.

Muscle memory is great…and you’ll enjoy the journey. Check out getting Alpha Male and other products to help boost your T level.

Never surrender…never give up no matter how long you’ve been out of the game. Time for new beginnings!
