I kept reading that HIIT is the best way to lose fat and get ripped. Only 15 minute or 20 minutes at most, but really go all out. This undoubtedly gets you in great cardiovascular shape but I don’t think you burn anywhere near enough calories in 15 minutes, no matter how hard you go, to see real reductions in body fat. Even when combined with high protein, moderate fats and low or moderate carbs, it really doesn’t destroy body fat like longer duration (but still intense) cardio.

I am not going to argue with you, but there is tons of research showing that short duration HIIT is better for body composition changes that LISS cardio like jogging, or the elliptical. Notice how many distance runners are just “skinny fat”.[/quote]

Distance runners are a pretty extreme example. They are not lifting weights, or if they are they are not doing it right or doing much. Additionally, they are doing hours of cardio on the regular.

15 minutes of real HIIT is almost certainly better than people that are just coasting effortlessly on the elliptical, but neither is going to torch body fat like 45 minutes of moderate-to-high intensity cardio. The two or three times in my life that I’ve been very, very ripped, I had to regularly do 45-60 minutes of pretty grueling cardio work every day or every other day.

Most people can’t do 45-60 minutes at a 7 minute pace to not be just coasting along.

Bingo.

Go to any track/running event. Whether its high school kids or Olympic athletes. Who would you rather look like, the sprinters or the marathoners?

This forum was less gay when we talked about lifting weights…

Extra weight slows you down though, additional muscle for distance runners, especially in the upper body, is a great disadvantage.

But so would extra belly fat on same long distance runners…

Not sure there are many runners going around with loads of belly fat. Are we comparing they guy running around the block once a month to an Olympic sprinter here or something?

The extra fat on long distance runners is an adaptation to store extra fuel on their bodies and it most definitely improves their performance.

Either way, I don’t think it’s an adaptation most people on this forum will need to worry about considering the way some of you are stressing out over the thought of doing 45 minutes of activity and equating it to training for a marathon… lol.

Next people will start believing static stretching will give you AIDS.

Depends where you do it, I suppose.

I hate to derail a perfectly good explanation about the static stretching AIDS epidemic, but… I dont have access to a sled, and hills are under snow often in my area, so I have been doing 3 of sets 20 of squats/DL with 1 to 2 minute rests at 40-50% training max for HIT. Any thoughts?

High reps on any exercise will give you AnalPenisAidsCancer. Do only 1-2 reps per exercise. Ever. Rest 20 minutes between sets. Eat buttered, bacon-wrapped Doritos while you wait.

I cannot find a single thing wrong with this. I have been training all wrong.

I’m kinda new to this but, what do I take for AnalPenisAidsCancer?

Increase protein to 0.3g/lb-bodyweight or do you think I need penicillin?

You need to switch to a vegan diet and do “Sweating to the oldies.”

So make sure you don’t get it.
