Which brings up a whole new set of problems.
You also have a public education system that is comparable to third world nations as far as student achievement goes. So you will need those called liberal educated people to move to your state to provide you with critical skills and higher IQs.
There are actually very few federally banned books.
I think it should be a schools administrative decision. They are responsible for what is and isnāt allowed in their school systems, as it should be.
Hell, when I started high school, there were designated smoking areas. Would anybody agree with that now?
So a kid is interested enough in literature to know that a book is not available in school. What is one to do?
Maybe go to the public library? Or a bookstore?
Why do schools have to provide or be all things to all people when so many of them canāt even provide the necessary education to the people that they are supposed to?
Lets say a parent is dead set on their kid reading a book that isnāt available from the school. What are they to do? Maybe freakin buy the book for their kid? Put their money where their mouth is?
So, it was ok to ban
Huckleberry Finn, Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird in some schools
I wonder how liberals would respond to me being required to read Atlas Shrugged in 11th grade English.
And remember, it all started in 1963 when the bible was banned in schools
There are some pretty intense sex scenes and killing. There is even the account of a single angel killing 185,000 men. Imagine that from an angel?? Ban that book!
Really? I guess I never tried to read the Bible in the school library, but Iām pretty sure there were several copies as well as the Torah, Koran, etc. Or maybe I just assumed there was. ![]()
They would assume you wouldnāt finish it so thereās no issue.
My teacher keep giving quizzes during the reading period. So you got told what you refused to read.
I believe (can be wrong) it is allowed in the school libraries, but not allowed to be read by the teachers to the students
which in my opinion is stupid, any book in the school libary should be able to be read by the teachers to the students
The Bible was never banned.
I corrected what the 1963 law says
The Bible can be read by teachers to students provided it is not as a religious exercise but for secular reasons such as history or literature.
Some?
Whoās decision was it to not have those as part of the curriculum?
Does it matter who decided to have them banned?
any book that is age appropriate should not be banned from schools
Iām actually for banning Catcher in the Rye. That is the most overrated piece of garbage ever written and children should not have to be subjected to it.
State your reason for the ban
Nope. I donāt agree with that either
Very true
@SkyzykS
In general i agree with your post but as a kid who discovered many things perusing the high school library during study periods there is something to be said about putting it right there to be found.
Re: internet access to info
I think (and have mentioned this before) the internet does horrible job teaching things because everything is presented in bite size snippets and quickly spider webs out to the next marginally related link. So the info is there but not in any format worth a damn to get more than a glimpse at topic from most search engines.
