Hey all I am a long time lurker and supporter of T-Nation. I took a long break from working out (my body shows it). I used to workout all the time made great gains, etc. Now I am starting over again, I am currently 185lbs, 5’7, 22% bodyfat.
My question is when putting together my food schedule, can I just take in calorie intake of a person 180lbs? 180 * 16 + 20% = 3456? Will this equal me out at 180lbs? or do i have to go on an extreme diet and then try to put the weight back on? (which should be no problem @ age:37)…I appreciate any help with this.
On a side note I still have 2tubs of the original Grow! which I never opened, is this stuff still good? When I say original Grow! I am talking about 1999 lol.
Well what are your goals? Are you looking to add mass or cut fat? That will determine the amount of calories you need. I suggest you find a plan to follow that will help you dictate the specific calorie requirements, should be easier than trying to come up with something on your own.
As for a 180lb guy- are you? You indicate you are 185. Why calculate for 180 then? That doesn’t make any sense.

I think he?s trying to loose some weight, slow and easy. 22% fat at 185 isnt to good. he also said that there was no problem to gain the weight again so I think it?s a cut post. Prof X!

Don’t focus on how much you weigh. Focus on changing your body-composition.
If you just want to lose 5 pounds and you’re at 20%+ BF, you don’t really need to cut calories, just start changing-out bad foods for good ones, and start lifting hard. You will slowly start to build muscle and drop fat at the same time.

First off- fuck you I’m not Prof X.
Second- thanks for stating the obvious. Should I call you BALBOS? I didn’t ask if he was trying to lose weight, I asked if he was trying to cut fat or gain mass, both of which will cause someone with 22%BF to lose weight.

What’s 5 pounds going to do for you? Put you at 20% BF? You need to re-evaluate your goals as john3103 stated and work on body composition.
As for you actual question- you should always do the calculations for the weight you are, not where you want to be. What if you wanted to be 160lbs? You’d starve yourself if you did the calcs based on 160 while weighing 185.

Sorry, it wasnt meant to do any harm or anything. I just called for Prof X because He doesnt like cuttinh ;). Take it easy mate ,)
Thanks alot for all the input. I was just confused on the calorie thing. Didnt mean to start a fight or anything. I dont look fat at 22%, my body still has a musclar appearance (shadows) but its all soft (fat on top of muscle. I just dont wanna be too big because at my height (5’7) I start looking like a bolder w/ clothes on. I am going to go ahead and get the clean 3000+ calories a day, train hard and see what happens.

Seriously dude, I wouldn’t worry much right now about getting ‘too big’. It’s not like you’re going to lift one day, go to sleep, and wake-up the next day with 20 extra pounds of muscle. It’s kinda hard to get too-big accidentally. Don’t worry about that for right now.
As you’re just starting out here, you’ll be able to drop fat and add muscle at the same time. Progress at the stage you’re at now comes real fast and easy. Start building a good core of strength and muscle-mass.

Kinda? It’s impossible. Never has happened in the history of existence.
