For some of you guys getting into the game, DJWheat does a show every sunday with Chill(the strategy forum mod at Team Liquid, and a pretty damn good player) that started out as a way for Chill to teach Wheat the game so he would be a better commentator for it, and has turned into a weekly show to teach everyone. Either they’ll go over a specific topic(like rushing, or countering an all-in rush), or watch a replay and break it down, or something along those lines.
The show(Weapon of Choice) starts at 2pm est.
For overall gaming enthusiasts he does a show right after called Live on Three that is just general ranting about different gaming/esports topics every week.

Nice to see that we have some very high level players here. Still haven’t picked up my copy yet because I’ve been so busy, at this point my inner nerd is living vicariously through this thread.
Edit: apparently Chill isn’t here today, so it sounds like the show is going to be more discussing sc2 community and esport and whatnot, and less about strategy due to his absence.
Sometime we should have some friendly 2 on 2 or 3 on 3 T-Nation member matches so we can have some bragging rights haha. It is awesome to see such an inner nerd from people who actually work out.

I’m sure you’re just being modest not pointing it out so I’ll brag for you:

He has brought us back from the dead a few times… I was getting raped at my base and thought the game was over, but no… here comes Fandango with a shit load of troops that appeared out of nowhere
oh man me and azntork are epic. just did 2 matches where we lost a guy due to lagging out or freezing, and then still managed to rape the remaining guys. 3v4 and 2v3. If anyone wants to see some void ray RAPE, i can post a replay.
some bad drivers is causing the GPU to go 100% on menu screens and 2D load screen which is frying some peoples graphic cards.
This isn’t the first time this has happened, nvidia put out some bad drivers a few months back for the beta that thoroughly trashed a lot of peoples cards on all blizzard games.
SC2 has an uncapped frame rate (I think that’s what it said) that causes the graphics card to get taxed too heavily during intense scenes (lots of units, lots of animations going on). Basically, graphics cards have been fried (literally) and Blizzard has acknowledged this and will be issuing a patch that caps the frame rate.
Please forward to everyone that has the game so they are aware of the issue.
Blizzard has really dropped the ball with bnet. I am still experiencing server timeouts(stuck on waiting for server screen) on a large portion of the games I join. Last night I got dropped in 2 out of 3 I was playing with JT, tyrant, and azn. Hopefully they are fixing this issue…Nothing more annoying than starting a game and being forced to surrender after 5 minutes.

I was never good at SC1 but I was good at other RTS games such as Red Alert and Company of Heroes.
How similar is the playstyle between SC2 and SC1, I felt like I could not manage resources and proper units fast enough against even the computer opponent in SC1! I always felt my opponent could build more units faster than I. ie. I would have 5 marines and he would have a shit load of zealots.
I am thinking about getting this game since my buddies are and we’ve always enjoyed playing other RTS. Just wanted to know how steep the learning curve is.
Oh, and how are the system requirements? Are they demanding?

SC2 is probably even more dependant on macro(which is what you described: the ability to manage resources and unit production). The key difference compared to other games from what I noticed is the reliance on unit production facilities. The easiest way to explain that is probably the fact that hatcheries aren’t always used to expand, sometimes it’s just a way to build more units. You would never see such things in other RTS’s.
With that said, they did make it easier to get the required macro skills to compete, with multiple building selection you can hotkey all of your production facilities and spam the hotkey to build units from all of them.
