The hairdresser/barber an interesting one.
Ive been going to the same barber now for about 15 years, and I tip 30+% for myself and my son. Actually, its $29.00 and I give her 40.
Main reason- she’s an independent contractor working within the framework of a barber shop. She buys her own tools, pays to get her scissors sharpened, pays a chair fee on a daily/weekly use basis, etc.
And most importantly- She does a great job for me & kiddo. If that element was missing, she’d get the usual, but only once and never again. The business would go to someone capable.
I think what I love the most about this site is people watching. It’s interesting to see what people will go off the rails over. Who knew Starbucks could elicit such passion! Lol. To stay on topic I do agree that asking for a tip prior to the service is irritating. The only person I would pre tip is my masseuse. And that’s only because I’ve been going to her for over 10 years and she is beyond amazing.
It wasn’t an argument.
