Starbucks tip solicitation

The last time I was at a Starbucks, years ago, on my credit card receipt there wasn’t even a space to place a tip as I was told corporate frowned against it.

This is what I hate too. Especially delivery like Uber Eats or Grubhub. I don’t use this often but you tip before your food arrives. It’s basically extortion that if you don’t tip your service will be slow. But then what happens when I do tip well and they don’t show up for 2 hours?

In terms of the Starbucks example, no disrespect but how is pulling the handle on my cold brew worthy of a tip? It was a 3 second process.

I worked for tips for years as a bus boy and waiter from age 14 through college. I get tipping and tip for service. But back then the average tip was 15%. If I got 20% it was a great tip! Now it’s the minimum. It’s just bubbled out of control I think.

On restaurants, I don’t understand why they’re the only type of business that gets to barely pay their employees. They say it’ll raise food prices if they do. Ok, do it. In Europe nobody tips, food is cheaper (in my experience), and they pay employees. It can be done.

I went through the drive through at Starbucks this morning and the barista said something like “That’ll be $15.25, there’s a promp before you pay.”

It didn’t feel like asking for a tip, more like “This is some corporate bullshit people get confused about and that makes the line back up.”

The Fair Labor Standards Act in 1977 enacted the tip credit.

Here is the bottom line as I see it - you can be right . . . or you can be happy. This thread is 64 deep over a two dollar tip.

It’s not about the money. It’s about the employee solicitation for tip. They are guilting you in to leaving a tip without performing a service.
In may case the girl told me about the tip screen basically saying I want a tip. I selected no tip.
My simple order was messed up. I’m in no way saying she did this on purpose. What I’m saying is a gratuity is for exceptional service. Pre paying a gratuity and getting bad service is the problem.

I think the discussion was less about this specific $2 tip and more about the culture. Not exactly outlandish, I googled “tipping culture” and there are hundreds of articles talking about this exact conversation.

Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?

So there is genocide in several parts of the world and we want the fucking tip prompt removed?

I’m very happy and in this case I think I’m right for me. Others may disagree and that’s their right.

I think we are done here. This has nothing to do with this topic. Either refrain from this of please stop posting in this thread.

I respect you, but you don’t tell me when to stop posting in threads.

I’m not telling you to stop posting. I’m asking you to keep on topic. If you want to talk about world events or politics you can easily create a new topic and discuss whatever you like.
Thanks in advance.

Particularly considering they pay for schooling too.

If social media didn’t exist, they wouldn’t think there’s anything to complain about.
