I will definitely be trying out for the part of young 20 something male. Literally jizzing myself.
Anyone else considering it?

With every day that goes by, I hate that I moved to Spain. I would take out a mortgage just so I could fly over and look J.J Abrams in his brilliantly talented eyes.
I shouldn’t feel too bad though, I have the acting capabilities of Norman Bates’ mother. I sincerely hope the new Star Wars is as good as I want it to be, also charming that there seem to be no fatties in the casting call. If all the originals rumoured to join are indeed being cast again for this one (which I strongly suspect they are), then I can’t imagine how great it would be to fuck around with all of them between filming. Also a very lucky break for Mark Hamill, you go Mark Hamill.

hmm
Star wars; overhyped sci-fi with followers that subject ever other sci-fi franchise to the “IT COPIED STAR WARS!” argument.
Making yet another series of boring films full of the same bullshit. BORING!

lol, definitely some rabid fans no doubt. Still, I like to point out that Star Trek was around much much earlier, as well as the fact that you can parallel every single character, the plot, and even the editing techniques used to Akira Kurosawa’s “The Hidden Fortress”. I actually used this as a lesson when I used to teach a film class. It really ruined Star Wars for most of my students, but I always thought it made for great reflection.

Also.
Star Trek remakes > star wars remakes/remastered/new trilogies/old trilogies

That’s interesting. I’ll have to watch it sometime.
I’m hopeful for the new ones. I’d love to see a tie in with Kyle Katarn from the Jedi Knight series of video games.

Yes yes yes yes! Katarn is probably the only expanded universe character that I would care to see, they are looking for a 40 year old military style male as one of the leads so its a possibility!

So you would consider yourself not traditionally good looking?

No idea how you would define non traditional good looks? It’s a pipe dream anyway.

Lol, at the end of the day me and my friends who are going to do it have nothing to lose and gain at least a story for the kids.

If you make it through the casting call, by some divine grace of all that is holy in the world, please find a way to reenact the bit where the stormtrooper hits his head on the doorway in A New Hope and convince Abrams to leave it in the final cut.

I really can’t think who the character would be I would be auditioning for, since its a lead role it could be one of the Solo children but they have gotten the ages a little bit mixed up…gonna be like millions of people at the casting lol

Thats because they are both (along with The Matrix, Wizard of Oz, Lord of the Rings, and countless others) based on the Hero’s Journey mythology. Its a common storyline that shows up in the myths of cultures throughout the world and history. Stu, did you incorporate the work of Joseph Campbell in the class?
Wait JJ Abrams is gonna do star wars?
More lens flare!
