Personally I’d go narrower than wider; it’s worth remembering that deadlifting is not like squatting and is an extension of your posterior chain, I think you would probably want to keep that as tight as possible and not waste any energy laterally.
Eventually you’ll work out what works best for you though. I find that just inside shoulder width with toes pointing forward is where I am at my strongest.
i keep the center of my shin on the rings, its a bitch to get started but if you get through the first inch you will get the lift.

don’t shorter people benefit from a slightly wider stance? i know it’s all different per person, but in general. being a tall(er) person i was able to pull and extra 35lbs in one week when i changed my stance from wide to narrow.
i pulled 475 at a meet with a wide stance and a wide grip (small pic), 4 days later in my gym (after getting advice from training partners) i was able to pull 510 pretty easily with a narrow (just inside shoulder width) stance and a much narrower grip (larger pic, about two yrs after first small pic).[/quote]
I also recently discovered immediate gains due to narrowing my stance. I don’t go quite as close as Wendler, but it’s pretty damn close.
I also agree with whoever said that lockout is tougher with a close stance, I’ve got to start hitting those deads off blocks.
BTW, I think I’m going to try that Wendler tip about hanging to find your stance. I’d say the vertical jump trick that was mentioned is about accurate for me.
