and still to this day have no idea why people foam roll.

I started using a foam roller on my back about two months ago just to improve my arch for competition benching. But even then, I am just using it as a rounded focal point to hyperextend over to help with the arch.
I agree that it is probably overused, but the foam roller can do the same thing as spinal adjustments, which have been shown to boost muscular performance for 20 minutes or so.

In that respect, it’s not a bad thing to do before heavy lifting.

Thanks for posting this article; it’s definitely good to remind yourself to stick to pounding out the basics. At the same time, your point in every thread gets tiring to me. Sure, every good program works and hard work will be the biggest factor to success. However, there’s nothing wrong with discussing the finer points and advancing your knowledge.

Hell, I couldn’t even stay healthy enough to squat 225 until I delved into some form and mobility techniques beyond the basics. If I had just stuck with the “just eat and smash 5/3/1” advice I see in every thread, I would be still at square one.
Do what you gotta do. The article was never meant to cover all topics. Remember the audience to whom he’s speaking. All those guys who email and ask thousands of questions to which for most - really don’t add up to much. However, notice he does NOT dismiss them. He simply states they aren’t as important for the general beginner to intermediate.

Don’t take it personal. He didn’t write the article to you. I’m just a bit surprised by the lack of reading comprehension of some because the article was based on powerbuilding and not powerlifting even tho he mentions a slight change to the training a few weeks out if you decided to do a powerlifting meet.

How dare you? The OP is a beast among men - just check his training log.

I’m sure you’re serious but I’m still laughing.

Yes he has a point when squatting heavy every other week. That is exactly how I trained when I squatted 700 with briefs wraps and belt in training. Squatting 2 x month. However, at the moment, I am benching 3 x week! ><)
