I remember in high school, I was one of the only kids who you could tell lifted weights if every had their shirts off. Anyways, so other kids would come up to me for weightlifting advice. 90% of the kids that would ask me stuff would end up saying at some point during the conversation “I want to get these (points to biceps), I want to get this (points to pecs), and I want to get this (points to abs).” …Fuckin morons.
Just goes to show the “if I need a mirror to see it, then it doesn’t matter” mentality.
I have used the swiss ball to rectify problems too. I actualy displaced my L5 vertebra(acutely) a couple weeks ago. It helped to restabilise so that I could return to weighted lifts.
But they are fun to screw around with too.
If you get a chick to straddle you on one it becomes a big sexual Hoppity-Hop.
Just be carefull that you don’t displace any vertebrae.
I too agree with the Balls having their time and place, mainly recovering from abdominal surgery when a squat, crunch or anything else was impossible to obtain. But they are not the end all be all.
Charles Staley had a great reply in the Squat Rack curls thread:
He said he offers some free training advice to these people. Instruct them to perform the following exercise. Grab an olympic bar 6 inches off center and curl it while standing on one leg. It is great for the ‘stabilizer’ muscles.

…I swear to god, if I hear one more twit whose been training for 6 months tell me that I should do more swiss ball work because it’ll strengthen my stabilizer muscles, I’ll go fuckin insane! I’ll probably rip off his head and bash it on the ground or some shit…“HOW ARE THOSE STABILIZER MUSCLES WORKIN FOR YA NOW, BITCH!!! HUH? I CAN’T HEAR YOU!!!”
Uh oh! I just read Dave Tates new article and he uses the words core muscles and he suggests using a stability ball to make the push-ups harder.
I’ll be anxiously awaiting to hear from you about his answer to your last question. LOL

Ball=fad. Don’t like fads.
The swiss ball is really fun to kick. Sometimes I like to play ‘field-goal kicker’ and kick for distance.

It’s best to do this in the gym while lots of big guys are working out. Kick the swiss balls at them yelling, “Play with my balls! Want to play with my balls?!” The more big guys and the louder you yell, the better. Big guys will want to “play” with you.
I’ve seen a lot of Tates work out practices in the Training Secrets of the West Side Barbell club video series and coming from him the advice would definitely hold water, BUT…
Does he know of the Hoppity Hop maneuvers?
