Just get stronger. Once you’re squatting your bodyweight and up, I can guarantee you’ll feel it in your legs.
See how your knees are bending? That’s your leg muscles doing that, baby, whether you “feel” it or not.
Also, when I’m hitting a max lift on any lower body exercise, I’m too busy concentrating on not dying to worry about whether it’s targeting my VMO or whatever.
To be fair, 35,000 is pretty impressive to me. I mean, if i was in not-america I would list all my weight in grams instead of kilos.
So what would you suggest would be wrong if I’m feeling pain in my knees or lower back? I’m not saying I always feel it but most times I do, which is restricting me from upping the weight because I don’t wanna cause injury early on.

My legs grew 6 inchs in about 9 month of my first proper 3 day full body program. (not too different from SS).
Didn’t particularly feel my legs while squatting and yet my quads grew pretty damn well.
I did 3 sets of 5 Low bar squats. 3x a week.
3 x 8 RDL 1.5x a week.
^^ That was the full total of my leg work.

Thats true… i tend to forget how confusing things can be for someone fairly new . Especially when there is so much info out there that contradicts each other.
Alright, do this.
When you are going down during the squat, spread your legs like a stripper and imagine you are showing your groin to a crowd. Use the part of your legs above and beside your groin to “pull you down” during the descent. These are your hip flexors. At the point where you reverse the lift, flex them hard and display your groin to the crowd with authority. Do it as if you get more tips and the possibility of a sucker buying you a Gucci handbag this way. And don’t lead with your chest. This is not the part of the act where you show off your tits. Just keep your chest up. Drive your traps into the bar instead.
After this, go do leg curls and do the same thing with your hip flexors to keep your groin on the bench and activate your hamstrings. Then realise you would have figured all this out from the start if you didn’t only focus on the “magical” squat like Rippetoe told you to. In his defense, I doubt he goes to strip clubs. I could be wrong.
Jhahah okay thankyou for the advice, I think leading with my chest was something I was definitely doing Wrong now that you say it.
Get someone to look at your squat. You shouldn’t be getting pain amd you shouldn’t ignore it.
I did take more videos of me squatting, but I’m not sure what could be causing it Lin even when looking at it
Sorry, I don’t understand what you mean. Are you trying to say you can’t see anything wrong with your own squat after reviewing it on video? When i was 15, I didn’t know my arse from my face, you’re probably in the same boat - which is why you see nothing wrong.
Try this. Grab a DB or KB. Do goblet squats and Agile 8. When you can do 3x15 with a 35/40kg bell, you will have the back and quad strength to squat far more than that. You’ll also have grown stability in the hole and enough mobility to squat pain free.
