Squats and Deads

Guys,
Do you think it would be okay for me to include squats and deadlifts in the following workout

A1) Deadlift 6 sets 2minrest
A2) Squat 6 sets 2minrest
B1) Ham Curl 6 sets 2minrest
B2) Let Exten 6 sets 2minrest

2-4 rep range- Would this be o.k. or do you guys have other recommendations for a way to get all my let workout stuff in on one day.

I can only speak for myself. I know that many powerlifters like to do deads and squats in one session, but I don’t.

I find I just can not lift as heavy or as well on either exercise. They work a lot of the same muscles, but differently. The dead is more of big pull; the squat, a push.

Plus, squats and deads come pretty close to being total body exercises. For me, to do either one right, I really have to dedicate the time and focus.

Seems you’re doing “legs”-- a body part workout.

I’m just wondering if you were to think about doing squats one day with some upper body work; and deads another day with some different upper body work.

I know this kicks my ass in a very good way, so I’m throwing it out there for you.

Best to all.

Personally I wouldn’t squat and deadlift in the same workout. Not a big fan of leg curls or leg extensions either. I would do less sets for the B exercises and most for the A’s. How about this:

Leg workout 1:
A1 Squat
A2 Romanian deadlift
B1 barbell step ups
B2 seated calf raise

Leg workout 2:
A1 Deadlift
A2 Bulgarian split squat
B1 Glute ham raise or King deadlifts
B2 Standing calf raise

Just my 2 cents.

There’s nothing wrong with that setup. Many people can peform squats and deadlifts in the same workout. How many times do you train legs each week? If only once, I’d suggest training more often. You could separate your squat and deadlift days, or you could do whole-body workouts as well.

Try splitting up the leg days… Either into Quad dominant/Ham-Hip dominant or better yet (in my opinion… Deadlift and Lunge on day one then Squat and Glute/Ham on day three. 5X5 on the D/L and Squat and 3x8 on the GH and lunge.

I agree with Yowser and BradS. Training Squats and Deads on the same day puts a serious strain on your CNS. Also, I find that I can do more of each when they are separate.

If you add up all of the pounds that you actually move in a Squat workout (For example: Just one set of 300lbs. x 6 = 1,800lbs.), then add the Deadlift pounds on top of that. You are moving many tons of iron on the same day.

There’s nothing wrong with doing both in the same workout if you are not totally concerned with the poundages. Your poundages will increase quicker if you split them up, but if you’re just looking for a hard ass training session, doing both is fine.
I have often done both, but usually that would be the entire workoutmaybe 8 work sets plus as many warm-ups as I need on the day to potentiate my strength and feel safe.
